@lo Wayland has SSD on their protocol. Some app developers don’t want to have to draw their own decorations and would rather the (compositor?) just did it for them in a way that makes the app look like the rest of the desktop.
GNOME refuses to draw SSD on Wayland because the protocol says that compositors “may choose to ignore the SSD request”

@lo In Wayland specs it is usually preferable to use CSD, as in the reference window manager Weston, but it is not mandatory, KWin and wlroots in fact use their own protocol for server side decorations.
Mutter does not have SSD support.
To work around this problem, there is a library called libdecor to draw decorations in window managers that use CSD.
