Toot

Written by Jay Springett on 2024-08-30 at 19:08

If I didn't have openvibe merging both my bluesky/masto timelines in one feed I'm not sure I'd be looking at fediverse at all?

It's so easy to use, Saves time, super simple.

But I'm really at a loss, what am I supposed to be doing on here? What are you all talking about on here?

@thejaymo I just post whatever random thought that’s not long enough for a blog post or interesting link I want whenever I feel like it. But honestly I feel the same way and working my way through to become a blog first again.

@thejaymo Hello, at-Thejaymo! I chewed on this question for a day or two. It's a good question.

Honestly, I use Mastodon much as I once did Twitter. My conversations here are just as numerous, but quieter. Principal parties are usually absent; nobody to pointedly @, and "subtooting" doesn't even work well. And I think I like that.

I help run an NYC-focused instance, and much of what I read and write here is about this city. The bare NYC hashtag is rich with regional stories and images.

Thanks for your thoughts! I guess at the time (and still do) I was feeling at a loss at how to use this kind of social media. I got it 14 years ago. But having conquered an addiction to twitter, the fedi verse seems a bit like methadone. Unappealing.

I not longer get short form text as a medium
