Reading #SICP 2nd ed. for pleasure. I wonder why in 1990 we as students at an Italian University had to learn #computer #programming with Pascal, instead. What had we done wrong?

@gisgeek egh, was wondering the same about learning C at school, later java..
people here argue that schools exist only to produce workers for the industries present.. not many businesses use lisp around here :/
also lisp has a bad name for being a language best suited for lone-wolfs, with the self-fulfilling implication that you wont be able to hire others to maintain your product.. in the end i think the reason for why we cant have nice things is always other peoples ability to make money

@janet_catcus @gisgeek think Pascal made educationally sense. If only for industry at the time: COBOL. The 80's still! Assembly lang 6809 same time. For me 'Tanenbaum' red book, 'Structured Computer Organization' most influential. Helps understand e.g. VMs and Docker today...
