Apparently, widget = widget stops widget from being rebuilt in Flutter. Why? How? I don't know. But it did cost me like 4 hours of debugging. :blobfoxconfused: :blobfoxsad:

@QuadRadical It looks like it’s kind of dumb in how it handles variables. Depending on where and to what it's assigned, the same widget will either stay cached or be rebuilt on a state change.
