Hi gang! Thinking about switching from Dropbox to Proton Drive. Pros/cons? What to be aware of?

@ibenb Can't really give much versus Dropbox as I never really used (maybe a decade ago a couple of times).

I have minimal needs. Proton is pretty nice. Web app is decent, Android app is decent. Can share files as a link (with or without password, expiry). Android app includes photo / camera backup. Web app includes a simple text editor. Main pro: end to end encryption. Therefore no AI training too, I suppose.

For me lack of Linux desktop app is a negative (it does have a Windows / MacOS app).

@picard Thank you so much, this is really helpful! Do you know if the app integrates with local folder structure or does one need to access files via browser?

@ibenb You're welcome. My understanding is, the desktop app does full folder-level syncing. So it will upload everything in the chosen folders, and automatically sync any changes etc, and it says files are accessible anywhere so I believe it will be 'both ways' (eg, access files from your phone on your laptop etc). The files are encrypted on your machine before uploading to Drive.
