I don't have any interest in defending Apple's indefensible App Store cut.
But why is Patreon even an app? It'd be fine as a website using stripe or whatever to process payments.

@snarfmason Probably because some people use Patreon posts to interact with their community, or to deliver things people are backing for, like essays or stories or whatever.
But yeah, feels like a waste of dev time and is probably only a thing because an exec thinks everyone should have an app.

@snarfmason The media playback features would be impractical without an app. It’s basically a simple podcast player. (But I more or less agree.)

@jardo I haven't used it in a while. Perhaps it does more than I thought.
But since YouTube works in mobile browsers, I didn't imagine there are native app capabilities it needs. Perhaps I am wrong though.

@snarfmason I don’t really use the app except when my podcast player is being slow at picking up new episodes from the private feed.

@jardo ah! Right. That's a good point. Bit of an edge case, but I've definitely felt the pain of podcast feed lag. Especially with private ones.
