I get an email about the car insurance renewal and see it's in my old name. Have to call up to get it changed, supply a copy of my deed poll, so far ok.
Ask them to update my title to Mx
"You can only choose from Mr/Ms/Mrs/Dr"
But I'm none of those I say
"In that case we're cancelling your policy as your legal name won't match our systems. And we'll charge you a cancellation fee."
Wait wait wait - YOU can't support MY title so now this is MY fault?
Asked them to raise it as a formal complaint which has paused the cancellation for 10 days.
GDPR right to rectification means what?

@alexlomas I’m Rev on my driving licence. But what do they think a “legal name” is as a concept in the UK?

@revk “Has to match your driving license”
/waves driving license with Mx on it at them/
“Not like that 🤪”

@alexlomas @revk hah. Good luck. I'd also cite section 7 of the Equality Act, discrim on grounds of gender reassignment if they don't allow mx title

@NatalyaD @alexlomas @revk honestly, I do wonder in this day and age why organizations are still bothering to ask about/store titles and gender? There can't be many that actually need to..

@srtcd424 Agreed, if they need specific info, ask don't just infer from gender. Dr can be any gender but often non-male people get misgendered by using it. I often throw a nice little Data Protection smack at organisations. @alexlomas @revk
