@j I have wondered, and I wish I knew! Mine had female screw threads at the ends, and were maybe a foot long. I was able to press out the core from a section I cut off, though I no longer remember what I made from the section. Maybe a spacer. But it was quite the surprise the first time I ran into it.

Could yours have been, too?? I suspect mine is a sacrificial anode for a water heater, and some of those appear to have threaded ends. Maybe??

@j I don't think so. The surface finish and fittings looked like it was a roller, and it cut like 6061 as far as I remember, not reminding me at all of brass.

But now I'll keep this in mind for any more scrapyard finds like that — just because the last ones seem to have been aluminum doesn't mean I won't find the same thing you did next time!
