i'm back home and the sunflowers are doing great!

particularly proud of the left one, which was originally in a smaller pot and got hurt while moving to the bigger one, but after a bunch of love and direct light application and non-traditional watering it's happily standing

sunflowers update!! had to move to a new flat mid-may, and emf happened late may and been kinda busy in general.

this was the state by may 16 of the big sunflower (with the small soba pot sunflower behind barely visible), which i'd say was its peak point

the state right now is... not great tbh. the small sunflower needed repotting to something bigger and that didn't happen so it died rip.

the big sunflower is alive, but struggling. it's on the balcony, where it gets a lot of wind but not enough rain

sooo! starting over, pretty much! on monday we just planted the rest of the seeds with a slightly different method (this plastic box that keeps water at the bottom and has a lid to keep humidity inside)

happy to report that all six of them successfully germinated today :3

the other misc plant is being handled by my gf who cares a lot more and isn't doing experiments like "will it survive outside" so naturally it's doing great. it has tentacles. i'm sure that's normal for plants.

big sunflower update: that thing in the center looks like a new type of thing! exciting. the old leaves might look damaged but there are also new leaves that look healthier. maybe this one will work out!!

the big sunflower looks like it's gonna flower! the center thingy is slowly getting bigger. also there's one more layer of leaves and looks generally happier than before.

small sunflowers: turns out we only had enough soil for 4 pots so one of them is Experimentally still not in a proper pot. but it's doing fine. the potted ones are doing great, except one didn't open its two initial leaves but keeps growing new leaves in the middle anyway

i have made Several Mistakes in the process, like not watering it for several weeks, and i think having it outdoors with the really intense hamburg winds was a questionable decision. storms go hard here. it's a strong plant now but at what cost.

one of those mistakes, pictured: pointing a 100W LED lamp at the plant during daytime (~1h before sunset) to help it recover from not having watered it for 4 days when we were all gone. should have taken a before/after tbh. but the before looked so sad ;_;

the young ones are doing great btw! they look like they might flower soon. having them indoors next to the window and watering them a lot is working much better as a strat.
