Found a load of sentimental mini DV tapes with an old camcorder, but they’re trapped unless I can find a FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter, which Apple don’t sell anymore…
Does anyone have any access or leads (pun not intended)?
I’d even pay for shipping and returns on a borrow, as I only need it to get these tapes saved!

@True_Heresy I’m seeing a bunch of Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters on eBay, though they’re more expensive than I’d like them to be - certainly more than I just paid for a FireWire PCI card.

@forty2 Yeah there’s a few that seem to be incredibly inflated, probably people realising they’re discontinued so gouging folks who didn’t know they needed them

@True_Heresy @forty2 at those prices you may as well just buy an old computer to do it.

@thatKomputerKat @forty2 Feels like it, honestly considering if I can use a VM of XP or something and see if the very very old software still exists anywhere.

@True_Heresy @forty2 I think I’d go for an old Mac mini personally. iMovie isn’t hard to get ahold of and it’s a Mac model that is less likely to give you grief than others.

@thatKomputerKat @forty2 Fair shout, I’ll have a look around and see what turns up to get things saved.
