Today i learned Oldenburg (hey, i live there!) has the highest relative bike use of any european city! But the bike infrastructure is.. Well uh.. Not great? Like at all?? I mean, i do regularily see people with big chonky items balancing them while on their bikes and a lot of kids being transported by bike too but i feel like it's despite the infrastructure, not because of itπ§

@CIMB4 people from Oldenburg like to complain about Oldenburg's bike infrastructure, myself included, but tbh, compared to other German cities, especially major ones like Berlin, Hamburg or Munich β cycling in Oldenburg is veeery safe and pleasant. Yes, there is a lot of room for improvement, but I've seen and have to use worse infrastrucutre on a regular basis.

@CIMB4 e.g. when I was studying in Marburg. There was essentially no bike infrastructure, despite it being a popular university town. It got a little bit better over the years but afaik there is still no safe bike path to the Uni campus Lahnberge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vIe7vG2_Dg
