@acollierastro, since you've enjoyed Central/Eastern European authors, I want to recommend 3 stories by Strugatsky brothers: “Roadside Picnic” (the film “Stalker” is loosely based on it), “The Doomed City” (people from different time periods and cultures all get teleported to a weird place; society happens), and “The Ugly Swans” (similar in plot to “The Chrysalids” but with a thick noir atmosphere). They have a lot more stuff, but these are the ones I've read and enjoyed the most.

Glad you liked Karel Capek's story, I do recommend reading his dystopian satire "The war with the Newts".
