I've read two articles about two pretty significant breakthroughs and the sad thing is knowing that at least one of them is going to be used for the profit of a major corporation and not the betterment of society.

One is the use of a new AstraZeneca drug to severely reduce the impact of lung cancer, and the other was using piss and vinegar to pull the cobalt out of dead lithium-ion batteries by a Swedish and Indian university.
