@ncopa Hi Natanael, thanks for such an excellent Distro, I use it as a desktop OS with XFCE which is perfect. I have a quick question , do you think the project could setup a discourse forum in place and/or as well as IRC as a source of help ? A lot of distros rely on the community helping each other with small issues via forums instead of the project developer having to. I know its a small team , so it may not be possible to maintain.

I'm interested to change my default Firefox browser for another of its forks which one do you use?
Currently I use Firefox with extensions like Ublock origin etc on my laptop and fennec on my GrapheneOS phone. But I would be open to suggestions for android as well.

@mullvadnet
I have been using your VPN for almost a year now. It's been amazing!!
I currently I have it running through the Mullvad client on my Debian machine and through the Wireguard client on my latest Alpine Linux install.
Do you think you might support APK packages ? I know your a small team, so It might not be an option.

I installed Alpine Linux today on a spare laptop , it took all of 30 minutes and installed without a single issue. I always thought, Alpine was more for containers and servers , but with plasma installed as the DE, it works beautifully as a Desktop.
I've always been intrigued by Alpine Linux and now Openwrt has started using Alpine's package manager , maybe I'll trial it for longer and see how it goes.

Still on the fence whether I should switch to Sid, everything works so well on stable with flatpaks I'm not sure I need it , especially with an XFCE DE, that doesn't change much. Maybe I'll switch when cosmic is in the Debian repo 🤔

So I'm back on Debian as my laptop OS and it feels a little like coming home , my first ever Linux distro was Debian and I can't believe how far its come.
Rocking XFCE again also, as cosmic DE was still a little too buggy for daily use, although it was pretty good for an alpha release.
I'm also considering switching my server back to Debian also , but that's a job for another day!

@mike can you recommend any more podcast streams? I remember a long time ago you mentioned some podcasts you follow, including #latenightlinux , which of course I now listen to religiously. So do you have any new ones you are listening to?

@thelinuxEXP Hey Nick did you happen to see the video that system76 used from YouTube, on there Cosmic DE talk at LinuxFest Northwest 🤔 I'll give you one guess who's channel it was.

Just tried the #COSMICDE on a popOS install and I'm really impressed. I can see it replacing xfce on my NixOS install when its had time to mature. I will be keeping a keen eye on its development from now on.

So I replaced my Fairphone 4, with a pixel 7a running #Grapheneos . It really was a good decision, nothing wrong with the fairphone its a good phone, that hopefully someone else can get use from. But I really like the privacy and security apsects of GrapheneOS. Plus I was convinced to try GrapheneOS from the #linuxunplugged podcast.
Dammit ! They got me with #NixOS that way.

I've officially migrated my Home server to #NixOS , it only took a few hours, with the battle tested configuration.nix , I setup on my test server.

Can anyone recommend something similar to cockpit for #NixOS preferably as TUI or CLI option?
As in a way to monitor my server easily with one interface!

I'm really excited!!! Today I managed to get a test server running, using #NixOS.
I got #nextcloud working with a #mariadb database
[#]Wireguard VPN working with routes to my LAN so I can access #Homeassistant server but also Nextcloud.
A local (as in LAN only) #coturn turn server , so I can use #nextcloudtalk through the VPN.
Only a caddy file server left to setup and I can then migrate my current server, which uses containers to NixOS modules.
Finally a secure setup with a VPN & NixOS

@nebucatnetzer
WOW that is a long standing issue, well good news that it will be included going forward.

@nebucatnetzer what was the issue ? I've recently found and issue with Podman containers regarding dropping multicast packets , which effects my music assistant container , so I'm considering moving away from containers to nixos packages.

If you run a #NixOS server , how do you run your #selfhosted services ?
Mainly interested in
[#]homeassistant
[#]nextcloud
[#]VPN
But keen to hear about other selfhosted services too.

How to do you access your #selfhosted services remotely?
I've been port forwarding to services like #nextcloud and #homeassistant for years whether directly or currently through a reverse proxy setup, but I'm thinking about alternative options.
Any advice ?

I can't decide between #nixos or #opensuse #microOS for my Intel NUC server. I only host containers running #podman really , like #HomeAssistant and #Nextcloud . I'm still learning about both OS's really and I know both come with a learning curve, one steeper than the other. But I really can't decide.
Any advice ......?

Today will be my 3rd full day working on the #fedora server. I've managed to get #homeassistant
[#]esphome
[#]jellyfin
[#]caddy as a reverse proxy
And #snikket an xmpp server (which I highly recommend )
All running on #podman , rootless and without disabling Selinux or the firewall.
Just SFTP to setup today and I'm done.
