Do you agree with Thomas Mann, who said, "A writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people."

I don’t think that some people are more (or less) naturally skilled than others, but some actually enjoy the painful initial steps required, so when they reach the point requiring they have to work a lot to become better, they are ready to do so.

Do you analyze structure and technique in other writer's work?

Yes most of the time, when I read a comics book, I try to figure what works and what doesn’t, especially the storyboard choices.

Do any of your characters have creative jobs?

It depends of how one defines "creative": vivisecting animals to turn them into subhumans implies a form of creativity.

But if we stick with the classical meaning of the word, Esther is my most creative character, being a good harpist, but she didn’t turn this skill into a job.

The Human Chair: "I used to be called Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, but now I’m just a chair. Some people may be afraid of what happened to me. They should not. I was not tailored to be a king, in fact I think now I wasn’t even tailored to be a human being. I’m just happy as a chair, when Lady d’Arcy seats on me or when this cute little leonine maid cleans me… hmmmm"

What about your antagonist?

Lady D’Arcy has lived two lives, being rejuvenated when she was in her eighties. But this opportunity didn’t make her wiser, so she’s very likely to redo the same mistakes that leads her exile, especially because she’s overconfident in her own abilities.

I don’t post lately because I’m busily working on the comics to finish the Chapter Two. So here’s a WIP of a panel from the 17th page, depicting Esther and Érié walking on a shoreline. In the background, a pier extends into the ocean, lined with buildings. The sky is cloudy, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere of the scene.

What's a mistake your MC would make twice without realizing it?

Since her return from the colonies, Esther can get overwhelmed by her emotions and loses control, something unthinkable before. And since this inevitably leads to a loss of consciousness and amnaesia, she has no way to change that. In fact, it will happen more than twice!

Did any specific world history inspire parts of your story?

Erie’s background is inspired by the history of Native Americans and how they were forced off their land and forced to abandon their culture and religion.

Part of the story is based on dream analysis, which is why one of the doctors draws inspiration from Freud.

Would anything stop you from ~~writing~~ drawing, or do you have the bug for life?

Drawing is how I cope with this mad world, so I can’t imagine living without my daily dose of drawing. But obviously if I become blind or tetraplegic, I would have to stop.
