I didn't realize Unity had become an advertising company that also develops a game engine.

I found two books!

The Disappeared by Kristine Kathryn Rusch and The Automatic Detective by A. Lee Martinez are published in formats I can actually read!

I found many great book suggestions from this list. I will now buy all of the ones that I can own, and not only rent, as ebooks. I expect it to be a very short list.

As a game culture researcher, I find this narrative incredibly harmful. It suggests that misogyny in online game spaces is simply an issue of some individual low-skill male players and not a pervasive part of the culture. The study explicitly rejects social explanations in favour of evolutionary psychology ones, which are favourites among bad science journalists, who prefer simple explanations over complicated ones.

I wrote a review of The Rule Book: The Building Blocks of Games by Jaakko Stenros and Markus Montola. It's a great book about making sense of rules, but leaves a lot questions unanswered. The book is also freely available, if you want read it.

It's great living in the future, where the library will just run out of whatever subscription they had and a e-book I've used for years suddenly just disappears from their catalogue.

I'm grading student work and one of the assignments is to read and summarise a scientific article. We've given them a list of acceptable sources (because we know they can't recognize scientific articles on their own). A significant portion has chosen articles written by me and I don't quite understand why. Do they assume that I would be flattered into giving them a higher grade?

Here's a good article on the actual agonies of AI, instead of the wishful worries the advocates would rather have us focus on.

"There are a few things they all want us to know: AI is not magic. LLMs are not sentient beings, and they won’t become sentient. And the problems with these technologies aren’t abstractions β€” they’re here now and we need to take them seriously today."
