If you are going and have not voted, yet - today is your last chance to take a peek and decide on the offerings.

If you are considering sending a proposal for @europython but are afraid that you don't know how, there's something new this year.

The first 100 proposals can get feedback on how to propose successfully. If you want it, the program team will help you re-write the proposal in a way that it has a better chance of getting accepted in the review process. And there's speaker mentoring later to help you prepare a good presentation as well.

Only catch: You have to be early. Best to do it this week.

PSA: If you have not replaced your calendars for 2025 yet: You can re-use old ones from previous years like 1975, 1986, 1997, 2003 and 2014.

This is nice if you kept self-made calendars and they can get a second run instead of staying in storage forever.

I just put up one from 2003 today.

via HN today: This one hour talk "The Aging Programmer" is not so much about programming, but how to age and plan for that. Recommended.

Just learned that tonight in a bit over one hour BBC Radio 4 is starting to repeat a series about mythical creatures.

It's by Rhianna #Pratchett (Terry Pratchett's daughter) and each episode is about 13 minutes long.

It's from last year, all episodes are already available on demand to listen to here:

Almost forgot that #AdventOfCode started today.

Like in previous years, I'll try to keep up until solving takes more time. Which is usually when brute forcing no longer works on my hardware and special math-y knowledge is required.

Then it's time to "(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻" and quit for me.

I'm playing in Jupyterlab using #Python. If you're playing too, have fun! If you're not playing, you may want to block this hashtag.

Today at #pythoncamp I learned about lossrider.

If your #matplotlib plots don’t have enough action, you need this.

Thanks @ReimarBauer

Todays #python "prototyping day" has been a success.

I had a look at Hynek's "services" SVCS (https://svcs.hynek.me/en/stable/index.html) and how to get it to work with FastAPI including testing.

This was not my first attempt. I gave up before: The documentation is very detailed and the examples were a bit overwhelming. But that's my problem and my best attempt is to try and make it work as a toy project.

Tests pass & fail as I wanted.

I can now use it in a FastAPI project depending on 2 external services.

Today I used #Python's "pip show" command for the first time.

It tells you - amongst other things - the version of an installed python package.

This beats guessing how each package tells you the version number.
