@bourgwick I went down the rabbit hole this morning on the Egypt shows after watching this vid that someone posted. Wondering if the deadcast ever covered the Egypt trip and/or this performance?

As always, thx for the great podcast!

Here’s a brief writeup on getting a HomePod Stereo Pair setup in #musicassistant in my #HomeAssistant environment: https://www.jimwillis.org/2025/01/01/stereo-homepod-pair-in-music-assistant/

Finding that the home assistant/music assistant environment is soooo much more flexible than HomeKit/airplay.

Happy New Year! What music are you kicking of the year with? What’s your first listen of the year? I was up at 5am and Beck’s Morning Phase fit the bill. You?

[#]tailscale was a solution without a problem for me until this holiday break when I setup #HomeAssistant and now have a secure, cloud-free, home automation system in place. #Nginx proxy means I can use the same hostname when I’m home or away. Sooooo nice!

Think I may have my Wordpress to Mastodon filtering in place so that it only posts from a specific category and doesn't spam my Mastodon account with all of my link and highlight saves. Fingers crossed!

Documenting my home HiFI streaming/listening setup, or the current iteration at least.

Would love hearing thoughts/suggestions from other #selfhosted #hifi #audio #music folks (please boost)

I've been on a deep dive these past couple of weeks: Marietje Schaake's "The Tech Coup," Ronan Farrow's "Surveilled," and @parismarx 's brilliant podcast series on tech billionaires.

A clear and disturbing pattern emerges: Our democratic institutions are quietly handing over control to unelected tech leaders, here are my notes:

When I listen to Mark O'Connor playing #guitar on Grisman '80 (instead of Tony Rice who was, err "taking a break" from playing with Grisman during this period), I can't help but feel he's the Salieri in Rice's Amadeus.

A while back I ranked my favorite Autumn albums and somehow forgot to include what has got to be the best Autumn album ever: Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil.

This is Wayne Shorter album but to me the real star on this is Herbie Hancock. This album represents some of his best and most creative playing and the melodies are such earworms.

I need some #help understanding how #mastodon and #bluesky work together. I like being here on mastodon but follow a bunch of people on bluesky (and have friends who only follow me on bluesky) is there a way that I can just stay here on mastodon but see all of the people I follow on bluesky here? And have my posts here show up on bluesky? I see #bridgyfed show up in searches but it doesn’t sound like it does this.

Really appreciate that somehow through Flipboard, I’m able to follow @csmonitor here on Mastodon. Great source of objective news. Thanks, @mike! Took me a minute to figure out what the official #Flipboard mastodon feed was to follow more broadly. Hoping it’s @Flipboard

Audio and Self-hosting Updates:

It’s been a busy few weeks as I reorient myself from the warm-weather version of me that spends almost zero time on personal technology projects to the cold-weather version of me that spend most of my time on personal technology projects:

My iPhone offered to adjust the eq of my Airpods based on the results of my hearing test. Even with minimal hearing loss (amazing given how many years I've been standing on stage in front of stupidly loud amps), I can hear such a difference.

The Tamborine in The Waterboys This is The Sea is soooo much more pronounced than I remember.

Unsolicited recommendation to do the hearing test and adjust your AirPods eq band.

As part of my recent guitar studies, I've been going down an Oscar Peterson hole and landed on this album from 1975. Every bar of every song is a mind-blower. HIGHLY recommend:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trio_(1973_album)

Joe Pass kills it but it's really Peterson who rips nonstop on this. Soooo good.
