The "... cult of shareholder supremacy was never about empiricism and objectivity. It's merely a gimmick to make greed seem scientifically optimal." - @pluralistic

"Google's capacity to defenstrate all of us, and the enormous cost we all bear if Google does so, has been carefully engineered into the system. Same goes for Apple, Microsoft, Adobe and anyone else who traps us in their silos. The lesson of the Crowdstrike catastrophe isn't merely that our IT systems are brittle and riddled with single points of failure: it's that these failure-points can be tripped deliberately, and that doing so could be in a company's best interests, no matter how devastating it would be to you or me."

The Bureau of Investigate Journalism went undercover and arranged a series of payments to each of the six major UK parties to test how easy it is for a foreign donor to make illegal political contributions

Labour was the only party to correctly identify and block the money.

I don't get this panic about Threads federating. Ppl seem to fear Threads itself is going to become like some super- user that somehow forces itself into everyone's newsfeed - like the owners of every walled garden do.

I'm on a small instance based in NL, I follow about 200 ppl and 10 hashtags (incl Mastoadmin ). Are my follows or hashtags going to change? Is the algo that generates my newsfeed going to change? Are the tools available for interacting going to change?

Or am I showing what a naive low-profile user I am?
