This banner says “your house is not on the outskirts, it’s next” and it refers to a popular proverbial saying, almost identical in Polish and Ukrainian: “moja chata z kraja” (my house is on the outskirts), meaning “it’s not my problem”. Applies not only to Ukrainians, to whom it’s addressed here, but also to Poland, most of Eastern Europe and all EU, really.

[#]Russia rocket hit destroyed a whole segment of a residential multi-apartment block in #Poltava #Ukraine, number of casualties will be only confirmed after all rubble is cleared. Putin came to power by blowing up such blocks, seems like he wants to end his term in the same style.

P.S. it doesn’t take a “Shaheed” drone or debris from shot-down rocket to cause such damage, it must have been a direct hit of an undamaged rocket with massive warhead, such as Kh-101

[#]Russia Ministry of Health has recorded a record decline in birth rates for the entire period of Putin's government. From January to November 2024, 1.124 million children were born, which is once again 100,000 fewer than the year before. The downward trend has continued uninterrupted since 2014.

Interesting, what might have happened and why the “traditional family values” cargo cult isn’t working?😉

In 2022 #Russia officer Vyacheslav Dubenko took part of the occupation of the #Kharkov oblast’. In June 2022 he kidnapped a 21-year old woman and took her to his home town of #Belgorod, where he kept her as a slave for 1.5 years. During that time she was kept in his locked apartment, abused, beaten and raped. At some point she attempted suicide so he took her to the hospital, which was the first time she saw other people in a year’s time. In the hospital she begged for help, but the Russian doctors simply told her to shut up, treated her and let her “go home with her boyfriend”. When Dubenko deserted from the army and went into hiding, she managed to contact her relatives in Ukraine who organised escape. She is now back in Ukraine.

[#]Serbia president Vučić seems to have finally understood the lesson of Euromaidan and Tbilisi - baton beating only works on Russians, all other Slavs only get pissed off even more.

He has just announced pardons for 13 people who have been arrested during anti-government protests that are rumbling through the country for months now.

Yet, apparently, he just had to try escalation first - probably on the advice of his Moscow advisers, because they never learn.

If he had gone back to the waves of protest that swept through Central and Eastern Europe in 1989-1993, he might have avoided the mistake of his initial escalation. Back then the Soviets murdered protesters with shovels (Tbilisi) and tanks (Vilnius), and they still had to bugger away afterwards.

How do you say things are bad in #Russia in such a way that you don’t say they are bad? I recommend because this article is a masterstroke - you can see how Soviet censorship stimulates the creativity of system journalists.[^1]

The author made a really interesting analysis of ‘his private inflation’ by comparing the prices of specific products he buys on 6 January in 2024 and 2025, and then compared it with the official inflation of Rosstat, which reports it at 9.52%. The author’s inflation calculated on his private basket came out at 14.28%, and amidst a dozen objections as to why such comparisons should not be made, but actually can be, the fluent reader will find cleverly camouflaged mischief along the lines of ‘unfortunately, I don’t buy “light new cars” every year’. To me it sounds like an allusion to a category of products that seems to have cheapened in Rosstat’s statistics, like the famous locomotives in communist Poland.[^2]

And, as usual in Soviet times, what is relevant is what the author does not write explicitly - you have to see it for yourself in the table. For example, that the price of beef rose by ~40%, butter by 36%, rye bread by 23%, potatoes by 112% and so on. But because, for example, poultry has cheapened by ~8% the average total comes out at 14.28%.

Everything is laced with commentary from an expert, which is a specific rejoinder to the paper and the author. The expert speaks in the tone of ‘in principle it’s right, but also it’s not’ and uses, I don’t know whether on purpose or for lack of better ideas, an example so absurd that it only makes you smile (‘when flying in an aeroplane, the pilot sees the temperature outside at -55° and the passenger at -52° and apparently they are both right, but the pilot wisely controls the whole thing so he is right’), but at the same time smuggles some asslicking for the Kremlin.

[^2]: one of Polish communist leaders went down in the annals of history in golden letters when, during a long period of severe shortages of food and other consumer goods, he delivered a dead serious TV speech announcing that “prices of meat have increased by 60% but prices of locomotives decreased by 27%”

Because it has already hit #Russia news as “DENMARK GRANTED PERMIT FOR NORD STREAM REPAIR” and will be now laboriously repeated in all pro-Russian news in EU, here’s the key points from the #NordStream permit:

Yes, #Australia green left generally is very much supportive of women in STEM.

But no, if the woman in question happens to be a #nuclear engineer then she’s no longer a woman in STEM who has her expertise and ideas. In such case she’s a “former Miss America” and tool of world capitalism. That “Miss America pageant” has no longer any brains of her own, she’s just being “ruthlessness required to achieve perfection as a capitalist woman” 🤷

This is literally what they wrote:

Polscy dziennikarze na YouTube: “no więc wiesz, chodzi o te marki pojazdów, wiesz, ja nie mogę powiedzieć wprost bo nam algorytm zdemonetyzuje kanał”

Co następne? Obowiązkowe 5 minut pochwał wobec Google bo inaczej “zdemonetyzują”? A najlepsze jest to, że wszyscy traktują to jak coś normalnego, jakieś prawo fizyki czy zwyczaj, który obowiązywał od zawsze.

🤷‍♂️

[#]Ukraine 110th Brigade official statement about #VelykaNovosilka from two days ago.

The reason why I’m reposting it in English is that there’s been overwhelming amount of #Russia disinformation activity about “encirclement” which had been happily picked up by many Ukrainian and foreign media simply because they were so sensational.

Today Russian bots started spamming Ukrainian channels with a video where men presented as “Ukrainian soldiers who are encircled for weeks with no help” are calling for help in perfectly clean and new uniforms. 110. Brigade has officially debunked this video, too.
