Dear #linux users fediverse. Let's say I have a process which never terminates. This process is a command-line tool which outputs text lines on stdout for further processing. Processing shall happen block based. Blocks relate to time bigger frames. Let's say hours or single days. Is there a utility/tool/framework I can use where I simply pipe the stdout to and get a file for every such block? I can't believe such thing does not exist.

Hey folks. I know, I am a little late to the party.. but what tool(s) have you used to delete your tweets on X/twitter before deleting your account? I've not been very consequent so far. I had added my fediverse handle in my account back then and not found my hardware key for 2FA for a long time. Finally got back access.

Today's #Linux pita: I generated a PDF file which links to local MP4 files. So clicking links in the PDF viewer (evince) should open a video player.. and play them. According to my "research" #AppArmor seems to be blocking this. Never heard about it before. Tried to add /usr/bin/totem as a line /usr/bin/totem ixr, to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince.. but this breaks it: profile /usr/bin/evince: has merged rule /usr/bin/totem with conflicting x modifiers- Why? Can anyone help here please?

@lunkw1ll @lavados @c1t Does it make sense to run the experiment multiple times (longer) on the same hardware setup? Even if no bit flips have happened within 8 hours? (As layman, I'd expect more (possible) occurrences for the same probability but a longer experiment runtime.)

Apparently, my sha256sum starts with 0a... 🥸 Let's see if this matches the other one, which is going to be uploaded to their web page. 😄

The experiment has ended. No bits have been harmed in this experiment. Maybe in the next one... who knows. #FlippyRAM #38c3

Oh nice, they updated the website with hints about their #38c3 talk. And details alt how to verify the USB pen drive firsthand. Well, I took a backup and a hash of the drive, but it's currently not accessible as my laptop is already hammering. 😅

"When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Turns out my laptop is a train grid power driven hammer now. All for science! 💻🔨 (Please note: minimum runtime is 3 hours just in case you are also on travel and dare to run this.)

The device model is "VendorCo ProductCode". ¯_(ツ)_/¯

7.5 GiB in total. Two partitions (~1 GiB + ~10 MiB + ) with fat32 filesystems on them. A big part is unallocated. I wonder if some easter eggs have been hidden there? First partition is labeled "ARCH_202412".

My #FlippyRAM USB pen drive which was handed out during the Rowhammer talk at #38C3 has Vendor ID 0x346d=13421d and Product ID 0x5678. If https://usb.org/sites/default/files/vendor_ids051920_0.pdf is the most recent account then this doesn't look like an officially registered VID. My Linux displays a "USB Disk 2.0". It actually enumerates as "Mass Storage" device. PID of 0x5678 also really reads like a dummy value though 0x38c3 would have been even nicer. Probably really just some cheap-o pen drives from $somewhere?

Really high-quality, entertaining, low entry-level historical introduction into the principles of Rowhammer by

@lunkw1ll, @lavados, and @c1t. Can recommend watching until the end. https://events.ccc.de/congress/2024/hub/de/event/ten-years-of-rowhammer-a-retrospect-and-path-to-the-future/ 🎉 #38c3

Self organized sessions during #38c3 (during congress in general) are great. Because, you can watch most talks at home (thanks to c3voc!) - but you cannot attend workshops afterwards. Thanks to @calisti and @mo8it for your "#Rust programming language: An absolute beginner workshop with intro presentation". Good introduction talk at the beginning. 🦀 IMO using rustlings enables a good hands-on learning curve. As you both were busy when I left, I didn't want to interrupt. So, again: Thanks! 🎉

Not too bad. I am actually quite happy with the result even though it could still be improved, and I had to cancel because there would have come even more stitches (too many). I'm looking forward to #38C3. And would be happy to exchange with other machine #embroidery interested entities.

  1. plug the memory card into my machine, switch it on and prepare two colored glow-in-the-dark threads

  1. give it a try!

Actually several bad things happened: ⤵️

My workflow:

  1. download the assets from the #38c3 styleguide (https://events.ccc.de/congress/2024/infos/styleguide.html)

  1. rework the SVG file in #inkscape so that there's no unwanted fills and overlaps; play with stroke widths

  1. use #InkStitch and its paramter dialog to tweak the values; resize the logo to fit into a 100 mm x 100 mm frame (physical limit of my machine); export a PES file

  1. transfer the PES file on an old memory card (my machine reads, no USB connection) using brother's PED Basic software

Another attempt in using #InkStitch. This time the idea was to create my own #38C3 T-shirt - with glow-in-the-dark thread. However, I am not too happy with the end result as I've made several mistakes. A learning experience for me. 🧵
