There is some beauty in the fact that my oldest #Python project first
is still in the top 1% of PyPI. The last release was six years ago, I don’t expect another one ever again, and yet its functionality never made it into the standard library due to gatekeeping.

Oof Mayans MC season five is sooo boooring… I didn’t even notice when the show switched to interminable scenes of people looking at each other and talking about nothing but this is some serious Soviet cinematography right there 😅

heh asking DeepSeek about the role of China in the Warsaw Pact invasion of 1968 gave me a great summary including some Mao and Cultural Revolution bashing only to revert to "Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let’s talk about something else." at the end. I guess they run some kind of generic "does China appear mildly negative here?" query over the answer? It doesn't seem to be limited to singular events like Tiananmen.

Guido opened a thread on DPO for us to share our memories of Michael: https://discuss.python.org/t/in-memoriam-michael-foord-1974-2025/78317/14

Today is truly a sad day for the Python community, as we mourn the passing of Michael “voidspace” Foord.
Most people will know him for his mock package (and later stdlib module), but those of us who had the pleasure to meet him… almost all my memories of him are delightfully goofy.
This was my last night with him in 2023 and it was no different.
Thanks for everything buddy! 💛

Looks like my flight back from PyCon US has already been cancelled.
Meanwhile, my layover in DTW on my way to PyTexas shrunk to 1:35h (from 2h+). 🫠

Here's a quick svcs 25.1.0 with a bunch of minor changes that I've been carrying around forever while procrastinating on bigger changes. I'm still procrastinating, but I don't want to withold them anymore: https://github.com/hynek/svcs/releases/tag/25.1.0

now that this is (hopefully) over, I'd like to state the obvious that pestering FOSS maintainers with your misguided compliance issues – in the holiday season no less – is not something that gets you on Santa's good list https://mastodon.social/@webknjaz/113881243992941874

As much as I love Tailwind and as much as it helped me to finally grasp concepts like flexbox, the v4 release once again demonstrates frontend’s addiction to churn. :(
I guess I'll just wait a few months if someone finds a way to use it with Hugo.

In case y'all wonder how I, a professional programmer, have solved this mess:
git diff >name.diff
git switch main
git branch -m name backup-name
git checkout -b name
patch -p0 <name.diff
git push --force

Since Twine 6.1.0 is out, I've tagged build-and-inspect-python-package 2.12.0.
This should get us another inch closer to end-to-end PEP 639 / license metadata support: https://github.com/hynek/build-and-inspect-python-package/releases/tag/v2.12.0

If you like me woke up to the entire oeuvre of Stratechery downloaded as part of the dithering.fm feed, the easiest way to get rid of them is temporarily setting the episode limit to 1 if your podcast client supports it. 😳
Be careful with your data packages.
