Manipulating the qnap's mmc to get it to boot freebsd got me nowhere.. when the loader.efi starts, no devices (including the nvme where I installed) are available.. but there's a grub in there, so looking into that now..

Good evening #fedi, time to work your magic :)

Long time ago, I saw Bobby McFerrin, together with a comedian (might have been Billy Crystal) do a routine called The History of Music (or something to that effect), probably at some kind of awards show. While the comedian was telling the story, Bobby McFerrin was providing the music with his voice (and hands and other body parts). One more specific thing I remember: at one point the comedian said "And then my lord, there was feedback" and Bobby imitated a spectacular guitar solo.

Does any of you know where I could find that video?

Dear fedi, today I'm looking at self-hosting (webserver, family nextcloud,...) from our home.

Situation: I got a big fat fiber entering the house and my isp provides both fixed ipv4 and ipv6coming in through a fritzbox. Behind that is an asus router for the home lan/wifi that has all boxen connected (nas, osmctv, laptops, phones) connected.

I'd like to properly secure this setup (modify if needed), exposing some services transparantly (!) for family members on the internet (notably nextcloud, maybe others), i.e. not changing configs on phones or laptops when outside the home.

How do I go about this? Can you share good (pref non corpo, no commercial solutions) blogs & guides to get me on the right track? Good pointers as well (I'm comfortable on the linux cli, scavenging manpages and sandboxing/testing stuff in containers/vm's). I'm mainly looking for good pointers on networking, routing, firewalling I guess..

Anyone have any experience or suggestions for setting up syncthing between multiple users/devices & a NAS with corresponding users that like to keep their data separated/private?

Ideally individual users should be able to easily set up syncs without having to talk to the admin (aka me) :)
