only half-joking maybe; it was considered unremarkable in its day and quickly forgotten, and it never got (or needed, for that matter) a reevaluation. it's just something that is what it is and looks how it looks exactly because of the time and materials and conditions under which it was made.

what people say is now "aesthetic" about a given era was usually standouts, outliers, caricatures that capture the vibe more than the reality. but sometimes it's something workmanlike and undistinguished.

god i hate seeing this shit happen in this country so much. i hate the existing policies that were already cruel and inhuman, i hate the new ones that are even moreso.

i hate the "bull in the china shop" style of conservative governance where the deepest truest point of each new stunt is to permanently maim and weaken government's ability to help anyone or accomplish anything good in the world, to obliterate trust and goodwill. it's weaponized incompetence played off as strength. utterly toxic.

personally i think i would probably just screenshot the post, make the a link to the original post, and provide a full transcription in the alt text. twitter created millions of holes in webpages, some of which excised what the entire focus of the news story was and memory-holing vital context. it feels bad to do if you believe (as i do) in the ideal of the web as a good faith cooperative effort where trust matters but we've been shown that trust is worthless to the corporate platforms.

links to original "full context" post & poster (but so would )

any edits to post are visible, for platforms that support it (but maybe unedited version is the story?)

live-updated engagement counts

you are trusting the platform holder to draw something on your webpage

it is going to become an empty hole in your webpage at some point in the future

like hm let's see, a ton of openly corrupt money laundering enterprises use this unproven concept of governance that sounds a lot like "let the market / the people who de facto control the market do whatever they were going to do anyway" wearing a democratic bedsheet, yeah let's Trust the Market here and assume that this time it'll be an engine for some sort of positive change rather than the opposite. what kind of political consciousness do you have where this made sense

one of the most embarrassing things from the last crypto bubble - and competition was stiff, obviously - was particular center/left people insisting on giving DAOs the benefit of the doubt and acting like there were actual valuable use cases to be found in what was never anything but, in practice, "what if voting worked more like money".
