What mail services do people use with a decent web UI? I don't like Hey or Zoho. I guess Fastmail and Protonmail are popular?

All those product sites that have scrollable "slides" full of whitespace, marketing spiel, fancy design, and almost no useful information need to be replaced by a new movement.
Your product site should be a resume: one page, keep it simple, tell me what I need to know to move to the next step.

Since I talk a lot of nonsense, I've set toots to delete after a month unless they're favourited or boosted. Seems fair. Validation or oblivion!

Jimmy Wales is not a saint. I personally watched as his for-profit business bought out a game wiki I was a contributor of, against the wishes of the community, by a backroom deal with the guy who owned the domain.
Ironically in Japan Wikipedia has a bit of a rep for having a right-wing bias.
But it surely must be the most successful knowledge sharing entity on the internet.

It just turned 2025 in Japan, and for the first time in over 10 years I am not a company employee. After quite a stressful few years working at tech startups and startup-like companies, I'm planning to take some downtime for a few months, reconnect with friends and family, develop some hobbies, brush up some skills, and do some reading, studying, and soul-searching before deciding what's next. I'm feeling positive, optimistic, but also apprehensive at the unknown.
Best wishes for 2025 to all! 🎍

Checking out #unisonlang, recommended by José Valim, the creator of #elixir.
Giving off #nix vibes. Actually I have only ever had false starts setting up Nix.
Speaking of which, still want to migrate to Lua for Neovim config and set up the native lsp interface...

When I'm benevolent dictator, it will be forbidden to write blog posts (or books!) demonstrating how to do something without including how to write automated tests for it. Making it testable will considerably change the implementation.

Ahahaha. Thought so. Although I fear I may have updated the firmware circa 2020. Thankfully I'll probably throw this away before I need to scan another document.

I plugged in this ancient thing for the first time in years to scan a document, and after reading all the stories about HP recently... I'm going to say no thanks. What even is my printer's content?

Probably no point asking here because everyone is going to say RSS reader, but what's the best business idea? Note business, not hobby project.

We need an equivalent for Halal/Kosher in software that has things like: No AI, not built using AI, no dependencies that use or introduce AI.

"Accelerate innovation with GitHub!"
"Try out our chatbot!"
Sorry, it's against my religion.

Does anybody know what species this is? I can't actually easily find info on it. From Okinawa, taken here. Might be good to add to a wikipedia article or something. Here's another picture.

Freedom is great, and the US loves it. But I think it doesn't really exist. Humans always depend on other humans, there is no true individual freedom unless it's at the expense of others. And the US was founded on slavery, the antithesis of freedom. Maybe the problem it's having with ideology around liberty is similar to the UK's delusions of grandeur around Brexit.

Seeing some static site evangelism recently, and think I'm going to abandon the nth iteration (with Kirby) of my forever unpublished personal site and just... write some HTML and CSS. Seems to be The Way.
I do want to get a Kirby setup working though, looks like a great CMS. But will deal with that when I need it.
