US blocking Swiss access to AI chips
Maybe this is a good thing and helps to get rid of the Google and Meta european HQs here in Zurich? But what do I know...

well, I remember the times when I knew «what i wanted» was to be found earliest on the 30th of returned results.
I dont think it helps romantizing the old times. search results accuracy has always been relative to conventionality.
conventionality was computed differently in the old times, but it was present very much.
but I agree AI is making it even worse.

For some time now I observe how the environment of my 13yo son talks about ChatGPT.
The last days I overheard some casual conversations of young people at the University's mensa and in the train about the same subject.
The more or less explicit meaning can be summarized as «it doesn't help learning (understanding), but gets stuff done.»
I come to think about ChatGPT as the perfect medium of interaction between disillusioned young people and educational institutions that are not interested in them in the first place.

good news from Switzerland: Swiss people voted overwhelmingly AGAINST investing into broader/more highways on a national level, against their own governement's will.
plus some other nice results are coming in, amongst others ppl voted for keeping gender sensible language in city aministration of Zurich.
All of this was not obvious at all and I am really happy about the results.

just got relegated into the family program of a festival with an dialogical lecture, because they obv think if its not an artistic product or inside academic discourse, it must be family fun.
they sure don't make it easy to like the institutionalised art world.
so here is the service: new slogan: products for art careers (instead of tools for change).

I am really exited about this too, and hope this will finally force the hearing aid mafia to reform, giving user agency (means access to software for self help) and driving these insane prices down.

this is the most informative article on climate processes I ever read: it's discussing how local weather works in terms of water cycles, the immense role of soil and vegetation and life in it, and the tremenduous possibilities for local climate action this entails.
