Hello! Good morning from an online librarian! How's everyone?

Right then, let's check in with Hoopla and Overdrive, two popular digital library services, and see how things are doing!

Oh… Oh damn.

We have lots of smart people here in the Town. People who might do talks at conferences or at work or for a group or whatever. And some of you might want to do a talk about AI. I did. I'm going to be speaking about AI at a conference. So I wrote up a presentation about AI.

I have literally changed or updated it at least twice a week since I finished the "final draft."

Don't do a talk about AI. Not unless you're ready to write it up five minutes before the presentation.

I love it when the robo-vac comes wandering back into the ktichen where its little charging base and dumpster lives. It's on the “Dock" setting and it's trying so hard to find the dock, all the while stumbling around and bumping into things like it just got home from a heavy night on the piss.

No I get it, Zuck. Hell, I'm taking a leak right now.

"We have a real problem with keeping secret information secret!" says secret-loving dude at a secret meeting he secretly scheduled and held in a secret location.

Nothing says that your marketing algorithm knows nothing about me more than sending me an email telling me that it's time to book my "MrBeast Experience.”

Okay, right. Time to write some SQL. If you hear any profanities in the distance, that’s probably me.

I don't know how they do it. I mean, I just can't figure out how they accomplish it.

How do they walk around in our world, striding across the plains of our planet....

With balls that big?

I'd write a folk song about AI tech bros but it'd basically be nothing more than a repetition of the words "Fuck you and die" growing ever more louder. From a droning lull one can barely hear building in a steady crescendo to the point you'd have to turn off the music because the neighbours will start asking questions.

Ya know, I was going to share a news article about how Meta is reacting to Deepseek. Then I came across a story about how Trump is reacting to Deepseek. Then I came across a story about how Nvidia is reacting to Deepseek. Then I came across a story about how the former Intel CEO is reacting to Deepseek.

So I'm not gonna post anything, actually. The story is the same. These fuckers got caught with their pants down and their dicks in their hands. And they are in a full blown panic.

Have you ever had something smack you across the brain out of nowhere? When you realize something that you should've picked up on years ago, literal years ago? But you didn't see it? Didn't even think about it? And then, after this realization, you think "I'm sure everyone knew this but me.”

But I just need to share this little bit of blindness that blindsided me.

I have a bunch of eBooks. And I need to catalogue them. Thankfully, there's a FOSS project that's very good at this. It's free as in freedom, so it's a libre project too.

Cataloguing software.

Libre project.

Catalogue. Libre.

Ca… Libre.

Calibre.

…..

Welp, I’ve solved the Da Vinci Code, lads.

Let's bring people back from the dead to promote memecoins. Fantastic idea. Great service. I must learn how to buy into this coin that will absolutely, without any shadow of a doubt, crash into the ground like a lawn dart duct taped to the nose of wingless 747 descending from 20,000 feet.

And now, a quick image that I like to call Lies, Damn Lies, and AI. I was looking for Schiller's quote about the Mac Mini being a product in Apple's lineup, one of the most dismissive things I've ever heard said about a product made by the company that employs the person saying it. That aside, Google was very helpful with its AI slop and offered this extra information.

For those who don't follow Apple... you can literally buy a Mac Pro. Right now. All you need is about US$7,000.

So... there's a new book out now, Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros, and it's got a shitload of buzz around it.

And from what we can tell, MacMillan is refusing to sell it to libraries at this time. I'm not talking about the digital item, I mean they're refusing to fulfill orders for the physical book. As of yesterday New York Public, Multnomah County, King County, and Boston Public all show that title is still on order.

Other libraries have reported more and more problems getting books and media delivered on time for their street date.

The publishing industry gots to get paid, son.

Hey, Fedi-friends? What's the prevailing attitude on MeWe? I've literally never heard of it until today and, before I put any time towards researching it, I wanted to take its temperature and see if it's running hot or cold.

Aw man...

I haven't watched or listened to baseball in years, but every so often I'd catch this dude calling a game and, ya know.... There's a reason I prefer to listen to a ball game rather than watch it. You get a good person on the right side of a microphone? It moves beyond "sporting event" into "live storytelling."

One of the best errors and glitches I run into is where some podcast host's DAI doesn't D I any As and there's just a quick pause and, suddenly, we're back to the show.

And so it remains that public libraries are one of the few remaining places where you are allowed to be without any expectation that you should spend money to be there.

In the year 2025, AOL Desktop Client still exists and is still receiving updates.
