It turns out I do have a close up magic pad and just forgot about it. My old playmat for magic the gathering makes quite a nice little close up pad. Basically the same thing.

Eldest is officially a game designer. They just invented the perfect combination of It and Hide and Seek but played in pitch dark.

Very chaotic, very fun. 10/10.

I am working on this routine at the moment, modified from a couple of other peoples work, that has what I think is a fun little moment in.

I put 4 coins into the box and one by one the coins exit the box and appear in my hand without me touching the box. Each time the contents of the box can be inspected to see that one coin has indeed aparated out of the box.

The fun is that one coin does not appear in my hand. I place two coins in the box and pop the lid on "two in the box" i say. I then gesture to the coins on the table "two on the table".

I do a magical gesture (there always has to be something to account for the magic) and say "thats another coin out"

I show both hands empty, take off the lid and dump the coins out onto my hand. Only one coin is there.

I place the coin back in the box and replace the lid saying "one in the box". I then casually gesture to the side "and three on the table"

This is a fun moment. That coin did, in fact, go in the box. I could even let you put those two coins in the box, and pop the lid on. Not going to change anything.

Going to build two simple pauper MTG decks to try and teach my eldest how to play that, but which?

Mono burn and white weenies?

Soldiers and goblins?

Yes! My new coin box and coin have arrived. Tge new coin is the one with the green patina. It is bronze.

The coin box itself is amazing. Exactly what I wanted it to be. Lid is a lovely weight and size. Box is heavy, but not too much so. Coins have just a little play inside the box.

I wish I could buy 10 to keep me going for life.

So I already knew I have no self control when it comes to Turkish Delights. If you put a box in front of me I will eat it like a little sugar goblin in a single go.

I have however today learned that I have no self control with Baklava either. I can not stop myself.

There is this guy at work who has this whole digital setup for keeping notes, events, lists and such that requires a lot of services and setup and so on that he really enjoys using.

He keeps trying to sell me on it, and keeps getting more and more angry with me that I just use a notebook, and a calendar to do all the stuff he does.

He seems to take it as a personal affront that I use a notebook instead of his specific tech stack to achive the same goal.

He keeps asking me things like:

"what is you forget your notebook" I just keep notes on bits of paper in my pocket and shove them in the noteboom when reunited with it, and what if you forget your phone?

"But how do you and your wife keep calendars in sync with eachother?" There is one calendar we both write stuff on.

I mean, I am happy that you enjoy your digital life planner, but let me just enjoy my notebook.

Day whatever learning the classic pass (and some variants).

I have seen some very good demonstrations of the classic pass that seem very impressive indeed. Their passes seem almost invisible. They all have the same flaw though.

Every single one is filmed from very specific angles so as that the move is completely covered.

If I were to perform a pass for you at the angle that it is being filmed I would have to stand witg my right shoulder just under your chin witg my cheek pressed against yours and my body out at 45 degrees.

Mine performing the pass would be invisible to you. Unfortunately I suspect you might thing something was up when I moved into and out of that possition.

The fact is that there is no such thing as an invisible pass. There will always be some telling motion that gives it away.

My pass is starting to get smoother, faster, and quieter. I have a little motion on my right hand third finger that helps me move the packets past eachother. I would like to eliminate that, but I do not have big hands.

One way I found of reducing it is to bury mt little finger deeper, but then I just lose movement in one hand for movement in another. I need to work out which looks more natural.

An old friend of mine might be popping over on Friday night to draft a little 120 card cube and play some MTG.

I am very excited for this to be a reality.

I am going to become the person in charge of the whole of computing and I am going to ban distributing software that is not just a static binary.

If you can not just download a single file and run it, it is banned. No downloading and installing dependencies. Just a binary that runs.

This will be my gift to the world.
