my #DecemberAdventure: my partner and I took in an 8 week old pup from rescue shelter just before the holiday. very little concept of time or language, but loves tennis balls and telenovelas. same!

A good few code visualization projects seem wrapped up/sidetracked in unraveling the complexities of their algol-like host langauges. Concatenative and rewrite systems, on the other hand, are often so simple, I have a hard time even imagining what a useful visualization would be. VM debugger can be too opaque/indirect, intermediate term rewrites are cool, but maybe too transparent to provide heuristic perceptual data. Less of a one-is-better argument, and more of a 'I wonder what I'm looking for'. Like, I wonder how much of the visual PL/structure editor space is devoted to trying to derive legibility from languages that have some degree of counterintuition baked in.

the answer is no, I am absolutely not ready to read graduate-level lambda calculus papers.

traversing inclined geography by jumping onto poorly placed hit boxes is weak. it’s like open-world devs completely gave up on solving intuitive 3d platforming when Skyrim made it okay to force players to walk against a cliff at 10 different angles.

@neauoire when lines connect boxes in porporo, at a high level, what does that "do"?

I get very nitpicky about UI. Not cause I care about design, but mostly because I'm visually impaired. I think it's a bummer that information (mostly from externally provided email, Slack, Airtable, GSheets) from feeds and data stores can't be more dynamically presented without doing some complex JSON/webhook/API stuff. I end up using spreadsheets for a lot of things, and whiteboarding apps where those fall short but they aren't dynamic, so it feels I spend a bunch of time just copy and pasting/formatting text between fields in a bunch of distributed apps. Is there a way a non web-dev can approach centralizing info from these kinds of services with dynamic updates, text searching, and customized interface? I mostly just want messages from one account to go to a column with it's date received, dropdowns to link those messages to a client/project, and make the text HUGE in a custom font?
Don't know where to start.

I exist totally outside academia/journal publishing/peer review/conference circuit.
Why are deadlines always so short?
Is it to prevent people from submitting who don't already work in that field?
Is it to prevent people from writing original work for that publication?
Are academics just working on a half-dozen papers simultaneously waiting for the right conference to come around?
It always seems like CFPs are so specific and deadlines so short, it's literally impossible to submit.

long shot: about 10 years ago, an artist made a video with a bunch of looping images of The Price is Right where the lights all flicker seamlessly. I believe I watched it on Vimeo. I've been looking for the artist/piece for a long time. Any ideas?
