How it "plays audio CDs" not just a subset of "modern gaming/media station with Blu-ray". It has to be deliberate malice?

Argh, WTF can't playstation 5 play audio CDs and WTF couldn't it just say that rather than accusing me of putting it in upside down or being dirty leading to me digging through internet troubleshooting forums. I thought my brand new CDs I found overseas were broken, but nooooo, Sony suck. Is this actually why the cool kids who like bands being paid are switching to vinyl!?

Picked up Sadie Cat's ashes from the vet today. Now life's returning to normal after holiday, really feeling the hole.

Those dystopic series where they're stuck underground, continually fighting to keep some 300 year old generator going, continually patching leaks with ancient tape, taking it down to hammer blades smooth, water and electricity leaking everywhere. occasionally someone gets electrocuted. That's what it feels like using a modern computer to do basically anything other than browsing FaceTokX

We said goodbye to little Sadie Cat this morning. 17 years of the loveliest cat wife. The vet managed to keep her going until we could be with her but it was obviously past time.

Aberdeen was nice, and great to see my uncle after all this time. Didn't really have long enough to see much of the city, and the pavements were really icy so we were not moving fast. Well, I wasn't, turns out I'm terrible on ice.

The panto was fantastic. Much bigger budget than anything I used to go to as a kid, but still just as fun. https://www.capitaltheatres.com/whats-on/all-shows/panto-2024-cinderella/2282

Been seeing the most important sights. The Rik Mayall memorial park bench in Hammersmith, and off to see the home town of one of my favourite Doctors. (Where I also lived)

We just washed the carpet in the cats' bedroom and ... phooof... the amount of muck coming out of the machine is impressive.

Had a nice long bath and thought through the icky feeling I get about using LLMs for knowledge or comms. I think it's that they're deeply conservative authoritarian: Can only use the past as reference, lock in inequalities and confidently state "facts", with no way to question or appeal. They fundamentally cannot envision an improved society or help us create one, they can only enforce what we have. And anyone who uses one with communication is embedding that way of thinking between us.

Feeling quite worn out by everything. Probably doesn't help that fireworks month means worse sleep and stressed dog. It's all just seems so relentless and inescapable. I need to relax and unwind but all the things I use to do that have been infected too.

got an electrician over to do lots of tiny little (and one important) fixes around the house. Unfortunately triggering the "Replace the Fuseboard with a modern RCD" law, which was spendy. But it all feels just a little bit safer now, and none of the light switches or sockets are wobbly any more.
