I am going to have to stop editing my posts so much, though, since it looks like post edits don't update on the Bluesky side. Which makes sense! And it's probably good for me to take an extra minute or two before clicking "Publish!" anyway. ☺️

A couple weeks ago I bridged my Mastodon account to Bluesky using Bridgy Fed (https://fed.brid.gy/), because I've settled here but a critical mass is forming there. So far it's working just fine! One small step toward a gloriously federated luxury space^W internet communism future.

The most friction comes from the fact I can't follow and engage with the folks following me from Bluesky unless they also bridge their accounts to Mastodon. Otherwise it's basically seamless.

I way over-committed myself to holiday #NeedleFelting projects this year. It didn't help that as I worked on my planned projects, I kept getting inspired to try something else, abandoning the original project for a brand-new thing, ad infinitum for weeks.

Anyway, here are some of the things I did finish, little baubles I had a lot of fun making for friends. Everything is entirely needle-felted; next year I think I'll wet-felt the base spheres in bulk to save both time & my hands.

Found this adorably angry-looking little #bird doing short, frantic hops and swoops around my back patio for so long I started to worry he was hurt, but he eventually zoomed off into the trees in a neighboring yard.

I've never seen this bird before! He didn't sing for me, so I only have visual clues for ID. Possibly a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet or Hutton's Vireo? All About Birds describes Kinglets as"seem[ing] nervous as they flit through the foliage" which certainly fits. #BackyardBirding

If you want to end war and stuff, you got to sing loud.

I just spent an hour troubleshooting an old Polaroid 640 I found at a flea market. Everything was in working order except the flash, which would not finish charging -- and this model won't open the shutter to take the photo without a charged flash.

I eventually found a bunch of reddit posts saying "My thrifted 640 wasn't charging the flash so I smacked it real hard and then it worked" so I figured sure, why not.

And it worked! This is why I love old technology. Modern phonecams could never.

I walked by a store blasting "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters at the exact moment someone bathed in Drakkar Noir passed by in the other direction and the multimedia sense memory instantly transported me back to 1993.

I spent the morning bird-watching in my aunt's yard near Birmingham, AL. I mostly sat in one place with my travel binoculars and saw over 20 birds in and around 2 trees.

There were tons of crows, of course, but some of them sounded different than the American Crows I know. I know birds can have regional "accents" in their songs, but this was very different! Like a caw! lossily compressed to a short, sharp squawk.

So today I learned about Corvus ossifragus, the Fish Crow. They are very shiny.

Every time my phone's camera app suggests, unprompted, that I should adjust the color of the sky, I get really sad.

I know we've been editing photos to correct colors for as long as photography has existed, but the near-daily automated suggestion that the color of the actual goddamn sky needs fixing just feels a hair too dystopian.
