Dear #retroComputing and #FloppyDisk enthusiasts!

Last night, I remembered the "fake" cassettes that one could use to connect external sources to a #cassette player: the cassette had no tape but only a coil and an input cable.

My question to you: Is that possible with a floppy disk? That is to replace the magnetic medium with e.g. a high density flex ribbon cable placed at the opening and a PCB that controls the current through each wire to imitate tracks and MFM data at the right frequency?

I just listened to the #podcast episode #CautionaryTales – Steel and Kindness: The Clash of the Skyscrapers about the dire labor #strikes in 1920s USA and the power of #kindness.

As usual, @TimHarford presents the topic as a captivating tale with great sound design -- easy to get lost in and one of my favorite things to listen to when taking a long bath 😸

Highly recommended!

Naturally, I wanted to start by playing a game and make use of the keyboard, so I booted up a #interactiveFiction title I have been looking forward to: #Hibernated1 -- from 3.5" floppy of course! 😸

I haven't come far yet, but have really enjoyed the atmosphere and helpful introduction. I got the boxed version which includes -- besides a couple of feelies -- a cheat sheet for playing IF, which was a nice touch.

But what really took me back was the mail-in registration card 😹

My cozy #retrocomputing corner just got upgraded with another machine that I started for the first time today: a #MEGA65 (a modern reimagination of the final 8-bit #Commodore computer of the early 90ties that never shipped)

What a lovely computer, and fun system! 😸

It is very welcoming so far, with its printed manual, setup screen and demo disk it boots into. The mechanical keyboard is a joy to type on -- the layout is quite different to what I am used to, but that is part of the charm :)
