Listening to the latest free episode of This Machine Kills, which discusses 'catastrophe bonds' which are used as poor-mans-insurance by various poor countries to get any sort of payout in case of climate related catastrophes like hurricanes. It's absolutely massively infuriating in so many ways.

Also notable that neither 'Israel' nor 'Palestine' appears in the index. Can't do a full-text search since I'm reading it as a physical book.

[#]reading Mark Coeckelbergh's 'Why AI Undermines Democracy and What To Do About It', and while it's on the whole a good read, I would have liked it more if it had a less western-centric perspective. There's a bunch of scaemongering and othering of 'authoritarian' countries 'like Russia and China' which I find a bit overblown considering what's been happening in many western countries.

Great video by John the Duncan on Family Abolition. Goes deeply into family as an institution and the need to dismantle and transform it for a better world.

I was reminded the other day that ChatGPT is now two years old. Two years (and change) before that was GPT-3's initial release date. GPT-2 was a bit over a year before that.
Does it feel like we're getting Exponential Growth towards AGI yet?

It's very interesting to see the various digital traces left by Luigi Mangione, and how they've been systematically finecombed by The Internet People for snippets that can be presented as ironic, interesting, impactful, intriguing or insightful.
Like, someone has dragged up his Spotify profile and noticed that he played 'Criminal' by Britney Spears 15 hours before his arrest.

Genuinely excellent essay by Evgeny Morozov on AI, it's history and it's future. I definitely do not agree with all of it, but it's a significantly more interesting read than most, and has some very cool and important details on its development and trajectory. All of the responses are also super relevant and interesting in their own right:
