I organized a Bike Bus for my elementary school today and it was a huge hit! Tons of parents and kids showed up even though The weather has turned chilly, and we had a great time riding to school, blasting some tunes.

Very excited to do this again soon.

Went out to see the Perseids last night and caught a stray Aurora!

And another bonus, a guy at the beach was checking out Saturn through a telescope and let us look

Alright folks. I am pricing our beloved Workcycles Kr8 Dutch Cargo bike (bakfiets) at $3500.

Located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Very strong electric assist, fits 2-4 kids up front or hundreds of pounds of cargo on the front, and a single passenger or 100+ lbs of cargo on the rear.

Lots of great features and details on this really well-designed bike. Even disassembles quickly in half for easy transport.

Current status on the diag: lots of police milling about in riot gear while excavators and garbage trucks dismantle the encampment.

A little before 6am this morning, police in Ann Arbor moved on the diag and cleared the pro-Palestine protest encampment, using riot gear and pepper spray.

From what I can tell there was no precipitating event to this, the protesters have been pretty civil and calm on the diag.

UMich President Ono appears to have just decided this was the opportune time, with students away for the summer, and so police did what police do, used violence to move out protestors.

My thoughts on the lack of challengers for this year's #a2council races:

If local NIMBYs are so unbothered as to not field a single candidate, it means our electeds are not pushing the needle enough.

We need our representatives to advocate for ideas that not everyone will be comfortable with.

Elimination of exclusively single family zoning. No minimum lot sizes. Mandatory safe streets. Police reform.

Look I understand this can be hard to comprehend when you're used to driving everywhere.

But pedestrians and bikes don't make traffic worse, they make it better! Your driving commute is much more impacted by all the distracted folks playing with their phones while driving home in their SUVs than the one time you had to slow down to let a pedestrian cross the road.

Imagine every pedestrian and bike is another car in traffic ahead of you. Does that make your life better?

Know this about a total eclipse - it exceeds belief.

It is sensory in so many ways - goosebumps on your flesh as the wind picks up and the temperature drops quickly. A halo of orange encircles the horizon. Shouts from anyone nearby, and all of this within a few seconds before totality. Your pulse quickens.

It's unbelievable the pace at which this plays out - hours of the sun slowly disappearing, but then totality is on you like a gunshot, a hole in the sky where the sun should be.

Get your kids vaccinated against Measles.

Not only is measles itself a very dangerous disease - can cause permanent damage through encephalitis and pneumonia - but it insidiously wipes out your immune system for any other previous infections.

Measles works by targeting your immune system's memory T cells, so risk of all-cause death is much higher for YEARS following measles infection.

It's very likely the only virus your body will recognize after a measles infection is measles itself.

Good Morning!

Make sure you see Tracy Chapman's full performance of Fast Car from last night's Grammys.

I couldn't find it anywhere but Twitter (sigh)

This week I took the Brompton to New Orleans on a work trip, and was happy to find that yes, traveling with a little folding bike is quite easy.

I carried it on, put it in overhead compartment, and nobody batted an eye, either direction.

It really made travel simple. If I was flying international I'd probably check it, but I think I'll carry on domestically.

Pediatricians are beginning to put recommendations for risky play into guidelines for children and it's so heartwarming to see the benefits of risky play finally being realized and accepted by the medical establishment.
