Today is the 25th anniversary of my first ever solo gig. A quarter of a century feels like a ridiculous amount of time to be doing anything, so I'm super grateful that I've been able to sustain this weird solo bass life for all that time, and the 140+ albums that have happened in between.

Thanks to all y'all who've been along for the ride. It's been magical.

kids, my PhD is DONE! I submitted it this morning. Just the viva to go.

NINE YEARS on this. including two years out for the pandemic and two for cancer. Quite the epic journey. Right now, I'm insanely proud of this and I'm going to celebrate continuously between now and Christmas :) x

Current musical obsession: Flamy Grant -Church. Drag Queen country gospel artist, singing songs about being treated like shit by the church. The middle of a venn diagram that includes Carrie Underwood, Hank Williams and Lil Nas X. Carrie's defiance and love of big 80s melodies, Hank's pursuit of redemption in places vilified by the church, and Lil Nas X's unashamed celebration of queer identity. It's fucking glorious.

This amazing single by Leah Wilcox is just out, with me on bass. I'd forgotten quite how busy the bass is, and absolutely love how she's woven it in with everything else that's going on. Properly gorgeous music.

That last retweet from @SingleBass is fabulous. Jennifer was doing solo bass gigs a long time before me, and has been a source of inspiration since I first saw her play in the late90s/early 00s at the 12 Bar club!

She's a really important part of the story of solo bass in the UK, so it makes me really happy to hear new music from her :)
