We agree with GMB that algorithmic transparency is a massive issue across the entire platform economy, leaving workers playing a game that they don’t know the rules to that the house always wins.

The current lack of transparency means that worker's aren't able to understand the basis on which they're paid. There is also a risk that algorithms lower working conditions by analysing individual behaviour and targeting drivers based on their willingness to accept lower fares.

Algorithmic decision making is what happens when companies collect detailed data on their workers to make important decisions about how much they are paid, what work they're offered and even if they are allowed to continue working.

This needs to change.
