hey #fediverse what is the current #activitypub server that provides features similar to #mastodon or #pleroma that uses the fewest resources? Is there anything there that is good for single user instances?

I'm aware of GoToSocial and Honk but wondering what else is there.

After Zuck & Friends recent hatespeech, I guess it is time to put even more efforts into #decentralization

Pity I dislike how expensive and chatty #activitypub protocol is. Maybe it is time for me to get back into some #SecureScuttlebutt #SSB development.

searching for reviews of an app on YouTube is yielding a lot of auto-generated videos that are just text-to-voice AI bullshit. Guess YouTube is also dead.

When I wrote that post, my blog was SSG generated by Pollen (which is ultimately running on the #Racket runtime). That was a great system and it served me well for years, but it had its shortcomings and eventually I decided to replace it with something simpler. I went with a dynamic #Lua site.

The new system is good old CGI based scripts written in #Lua using a #SQLite file as source of truth. About 1169 lines for the whole CMS including my #IndieAuth #Micropub and my #MetaWeblog endpoint.

Seeing many posts about

[#]Lua

[#]programming

language on my feeds and socials recently. Very often the comments on these posts tend to fall into the same rants and misunderstandings. In 2021 I wrote about it in:

https://andregarzia.com/2021/01/lua-a-misunderstood-language.html

That is a good read for anyone puzzling about Lua.

If at some point Apple becomes more obnoxious about AI (am not happy with Apple intelligence at all), I will look into maybe going back to either Linux or Haiku or even NetBSD.

The only app that done this right is BBEdit. They have AI worksheets if you want, but it is up to you to configure and use them. They have no nagging screen and it is not on your face. Which is why I am keeping it as my main editor.

Gonna slowly switch away from Github for new projects. Tired of SaaS managed by others, will go towards self-hosted Fossil SCM cause that is good enough for me.

I'm literally slowly switching away from products cause they keep shipping this bs and keep trying to make me use it. They never offer a "switch off AI forever" toggle, they have stupid dark patterns such as "decide later" which is a coward option.

So tired of AI being forced into every single product I use. I don't want these features. I never used them, I have no desire to use them.

If you want to ship AI on a product, please make it opt-in. Don't keep nagging me to use whatever bullshit feature you came up with cause AI hype is high.

really tired of LLM and AI bullshittery. It is the new snake oil. It will code for you, it will make art for you, it will write for you, it will make music for you. Shit, I don't want anyone to do those things for me, I want to do those things by myself.

LLM and AI is the death of the aura.

Melon Husk saying he'll create a phone because he's salty with Apple made me vomit a bit.

I'm not a fan of Apple recent AI moves, but that doesn't mean I'd trust a known fuckup to be the gardener of a new and better garden.

Now that #Apple released a bunch new #iPad iterations and the new M4 chip there will be an avalanche of comments "oh if this device was not neutered I'd get it" and "just run macOS already" and so on.

I wrote this two years ago and it is still relevant:

I wrote this piece about the challenges of #blogging in 2020:

Everything I mentioned there is still true and worse than before.

going from Markdown to PDF via LaTeX using Pandoc is amazing but holy fuck why can't my hundreds of tables have the same width arrrghhhh

(and yes, there's a Lua filter trying to normalise it (and clearly failing))
