[#]3GoodThings for Friday, January 31:

  1. Not needing to go out on a dank and drizzly day.

  1. Those cooking activities I've been mentioning today mean all I had to do today was heat things up for lunch and stuff a couple of warm tortillas for dinner.

  1. The weather forecast for the next several days neatly sequesters rain to nighttime hours, when I wouldn't be going out anyway. (Sorry if you must, dear readers.) Hoping to go on at least one nature walk this weekend.

On Friday night, Donald Trump fired 17 inspectors general.

Inspectors general (IGs) are independent watchdogs whose job is to root out waste, fraud, and corruption in the agencies they oversee.

Trump’s firing of the IGs was illegalβ€”a president must give Congress 30 days’ notice before firing Senate-confirmed IGs.

Even Senator Lindsey Graham has acknowledged Trump violated the law, and several Republican senators have criticized Trump’s action.

[#]3GoodThings for Thursday, January 30:

  1. Bright sunny mornings that make you think the weather is warmer than it actually is. By the time I got outside and realized it wasn't that warm, I was dressed and had shoes on, so I just went ahead with my errands.

  1. Started a new book. Not sure this will be my main read, but it's interesting. Fiction for a change.

  1. Tried a new recipe that turned out very tasty.

From October 2022. The counterarguments came true.

Why I Don’t Think Elon Musk Is Going to Open the Nazi Floodgates on Twitter

Alex Kirshner, Slate

"If Musk were to let Twitter be overrun by neo-Nazis, he might find that there are enough repressed conservative souls ... It’s not a great bet, though. More likely, it would chase away users who prefer Twitter with less abuse and racism ... and Twitter would lose advertising dollars that make its business viable."

  1. Finished a book I've been reading for a long time. It was heavy going and not a happy read, but worth the effort.

  1. Naps.

  1. Choosing what to read next. I've dipped into a couple of books, but what to focus on?

Drilling is Killing

Millions of Americans oppose offshore drilling for good reason.

Offshore drilling threatens marine life, coastal economies, and the communities who call these places home. But this fight isn’t just about stopping oil rigs β€” it’s about standing up to powerful corporate interests and ensuring that our coasts remain healthy, vibrant, and protected for future generations.

  1. A bird in the house! Able to get it out quickly, with no harm to bird, me, or home.

  1. Change in plans left me near some shops I haven't visited in a while. Scored some bargains--nothing necessary, but useful.

  1. Pizza for lunch. Not good for the waistline, but I love it. (Yeah, like I have a waistline!)

  1. Warming trend continues, slowly.

  1. Got more reading done than usual.

  1. Tightness in my lower back muscles is much better. Either the extra stretching is helping or it was, in part, the cold. Or both.

They are asking people like you and me to let them know what you’re paying attention to in the first 100 days of the new administration to align their priorities with Americans.

Experiment: Going forward I will try to share potentially uncomfortable stuff (read: US politics) only between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm my local (EST) time. Otherwise I'll try to share neutral to good. Expect nature photos (my own and boosts), cats, etc., cheery humor, books, sports, food, and all the things.

Petition shares by me will be mostly 11:15 am, as usual. Shares of others' could be at other times.

Not sure if this will stick, but worth a try.
