I wanted to help torrent seed some national geographic magazines from the Internet Archive, but when I look at the PDF version I can see they were scanned at 46 PPI. The included abbyy reader and generated epub files are illegible garbage 😞 The scanned PDFs are barely legible so useless to try and re-OCR.

There seem to be other archives available on the internet archives. Hopefully I can find better ones. Now I know to just torrent a single file instead of the complete torrent to check for quality first...

While I've been using signal for a few years now, I'd like to keep ahead of the curve somewhat. Signal is a US company and they use AWS infrastructure. I know of other apps like briar, element, threema etc, but those seem to have only a tiny amount of users compared to signal. I don't mind not having the same functionality but it would help when trying to get others to switch. Any tips / ideas?

Looks like the new Belgian Prime minister is smart enough to change his body language just enough so he can claim it definitely isn't a nazi salute. (He is known for doing this. Sometimes with both hands)

Yesterday I achieved a successful instance migration by following the #feditip at

One little thing isn't mentioned on that page: filters. If you want to keep your filters then you have to note them down on the source instance and then manually add them to the new instance. Do this BEFORE you create an account alias on the old instance, because creating the alias stops you from accessing most of your settings.
