I don't know why the West Coast isn't already working on things like creating a regional single payer #healthcare system. We have the population and resources.

I see a lot of bad takes about people 'just complaining ' or whatever, as if anyone cares what one guy thinks or the idea that some blogs telling the truth in some corner of the Internet lost the election somehow.

So here's an idea. The West Coast should provide healthcare for all its citizens and model decent governance. There.

@libraries I'm giving a nonprofit some free tech consulting on a somewhat unique problem that managing a large library of so-called "dead" physical media (not books). I think an open source book library system like #Kona might be a good starting point for their needs but I don't have any prior experience with this sort of system myself. Any library techies out there who have used one of these platforms I could chat with?

If you're here in #Portland, Movie Madness has an enormous collection and even #movie costumes and props, including the ear from Blue Velvet. If you don't have a video store nearby, you can join Scarecrow Video in Seattle, which is even bigger and mails discs across the country like Netflix did back in the day. #physicalmedia

@dansup I don't know if you know about Etsy - my wife, an artist, uses it. But I think she increasingly hates it because the money boys there keep screwing around. It seems unnecessarily rent-extractive for what it does to me. Do you think it could essentially be replaced by the Fediverse? You know anyone working on this?

There seem to be a bunch of #librarians on here, which is a good sign for the long term health of the Fediverse. I've been pondering a bit on a double-secret tech problem which involves cataloging a bunch of physical items. I know there are several #opensource #library management systems and that might be a good starting point for my needs. Anyone out there with experience with these?

@cybeardjm As an African music fan, are you familiar with this label from my hometown? This gentleman traveled all over Africa trying to find musicians he'd heard first on passed-around mix tapes on cassette and later cell phones. He discovered Mdou Moctar and a bunch of other cool guitarists and gave them a fair deal. #Portland #SahelSounds

@jenbanim We have volunteer Neighborhood Emergency Teams here in Portland and this looks like a similar thing in Seattle.
