i've found "cretin" to be a suitable and similarly strong replacement for how i used to see people use the word "retard."

And a word with much less potential to hurt people I like and/or care about.

steam is like internet explorer or even edge, in that its only purpose is to download software that is actually wanted (like a better web browser). It deserves just as much respect as internet explorer (none).

actually receives an authentic japanese language cartridge instead

I hate ebay "AI descriptions." Ugh.

Still, i'm keeping this, i got it for under $25.

GNOME people: "CSD (client side decoration, basically not using the window manager's borders) is good, actually"

me: "okay, now close a bunch of windows on my computer and say that again."

https://megatokyo.moe/dl/moz/addon/ - my seamonkey extensins/addons. Pretty sure none of these are implementable in the same general simple ways in modern firefox post-XUL apocalypse.

They work by toggling about:config preferences in most cases, by enabling or disabling another addon I installed in one case, and by editing multiple string and integer about:config prefs in the final case.

They are toolbar buttons to toggle the enabling of javascript, webcomponents junk, web proxy settings, if images try to download or view in-browser, if tabs open in the background or foreground, and the default text encoding of websites that don't specify (to force Shift-JIS on some ancient japanese sites).

ubuntu is shit and so is anything ubuntu derived like mint because both use horrifically out of date kernels that fail on hardware modern kernels work fine on, thus making people assume "linux" just doesn't work on their hardware

I like single-tasking systems where the OS is almost nonexistant like DOS systems because there I can write assembly and not have to ask for memory from the OS, just write to whatever memory or register I want

Very old android program to force whatever rotation you want in any program on android, including upside-down portrait. You need to use adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block file.apk to install it on modern android unless someone rebuilds it for a newer android SDK version. Works in android 15 still.

(only half joking; the externalized stuff is to my eyes often quite obvious. refusing help, talking over others, aggression, that kind of thing. the internalized stuff is much, much trickier though because that can manifest as a performance you put on to fit into your role, and it can be hard to tell where the performance ends. For that “be truthful and honest and don’t bottle things up” is the best i can offer).

Another use of something like what i'm describing would be to have, say, tarballs of web pages that when read just transparently act as directories containing all the dependent files saved alongside the HTML, but which when running something like 'find' it wouldn't waste time flipping through each file and would just report it as a single file
