Today I went to a freecycling party hosted by a friend! We all brought clothes/books/art supplies/etc we didn't want, perused everyone else's stuff and took what we wanted, and then divided any remaining items into categories to donate (e.g. one person takes all the art supplies to our local used craft supply store, another person takes all the clothes to a local thrift store, etc).
It was very fun! And I never would have thought of throwing a party like that, so I'm posting about it here to pass along the idea to others :)

Criterion Challenge prompt 1: Watch a film from the CC40 Boxset. The Night of the Hunter.
I love a good thriller, and this was no exception. I particularly enjoyed the way music was used throughout, and I now have "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" stuck in my head. It was also a fun challenge to do my illustrations in black and white, matching the movie.

What do you do? I'd be interested to hear any info you're willing to share about what sort of role you're in, what company/organization you work for, what skills got you there, or what you find fulfilling about your job.
Context: I work as a software developer on payment systems at a bank. It is materially a very good job, and my coworkers/boss are nice. However, I am happiest in a job when I can see clearly that my work is helping people, and my current job is Not That. So, I'm trying to figure out what sort of role I might find more satisfying.

if I am going to be compelled to take a bus downtown and sit in a little cube all day, the least they could do is let me bring a blanket and pillows in and build a fort under my desk and do my work from there

Criterion Challenge prompt 49: female filmmakers. (as you can tell, I'm not doing the prompts in order.) Anatomy of a Fall, directed by Justine Triet.
This one hit close to home, since I have a family member who died in a similar manner, though under very different circumstances. I appreciated how this film captures the ambiguity that can surround a sudden death. In some deaths, you really can't arrive at a 100% certain understanding of exactly how it happened, and I liked that this movie didn't shy away from that.

I've decided to participate in the #criterionChallenge this year, mainly to reduce my indecision when looking for a movie to watch. I also am adding an additional challenge on top of it, to do some drawings inspired by each film I watch for the challenge, since I haven't done much drawing in a long time and I'd like to pick it back up again.
The first film I watched was Festen (The Celebration). This was for prompt 2, "Watch a film from the year you were born"- 1998. I can't say I enjoyed the film (it's a very grim movie) but I had fun drawing some of the scenes and characters.

New #introduction since I'm on a new server-- hello, I'm Emma!
I tend to post about knitting, making collage poems, mending clothing, tinkering with code, cooking, and reading sci-fi stories. I boost more than I post.
