One of the contradictions in my life is that I regularly wear single-use masks to protect me and my family, and others, from Covid. These cannot be recycled, and end up burned.
I have another option, which is P100/P3 elastomerics. These are reusable (the filters last for months in heavy daily use), but look scary, Darth Vader style.
There is a point at which appearances become more than peer pressure and anxiety exceed the threshold where "this might contribute to a conflict situation". Single-use masks are still somewhat tolerated, elastomerics less so.
So in practice I only use elastomerics for train journeys.
Nonetheless, the pandemic is not over, another one is on the way, and masks help even with flu, which is quite bad at the moment. Masking is better than not masking.
And in terms of system change, there is a lot that could be done to improve the situation. Make the Covid vaccine available for free to anyone who wants it, require masks in healthcare settings and other settings that vulnerable people cannot avoid, improve ventilation everywhere, and so on.

Some progress on electrifying construction equipment, mostly in Oslo and Stockholm. Note that their previous focus on biofuels is NOT sustainable.
"For projects run by the [Oslo] urban environment agency, which has more recent data through to October 2024, two-thirds of machine hours were powered by electricity and one-third by biodiesel."

Reminder: most of our economic problems are caused by the climate and biodiversity crisis, or by the factors that cause it (fossil fuels and capitalism).

I'm back, on a different account on the same server after a misunderstanding in the middle of a somewhat stressful period (note that accounts are approved manually on this server). My last account was @MatthewToad43@climatejustice.social, and before that, 42. I'll write a proper re-introduction post later.
