A "preferred name" is something like Nick instead of Nicholas or Liz instead of Elizabeth.
A person's name they identify as is their real name, legally recognized or not. There is no "preference" involved, it is how they shall be addressed. (Though if a self-identified name also has a preferred shortening, do respect that too!)
Please start rejecting the language of "preferred name" where inappropriate in this way. It is not a nickname, it is not a diminutive, it is not an ask. It's a person's name. Demand that "legal name" be the outlier, the exception, the term with a qualifying mark.

I want to poke at an autistic feature I would call "word stuck". It's when a certain word or phrase kinda dominates speech or writing.
Lately in our writing it's been overuse of the word 'just', which was 27 times in ~3400 words. Was that a lot? Dunno, but it seemed prominent and we cut it down to 15.
Other forms of wordstuck are starting sentences with preambles like 'first off...' or 'yeah, ', or linking or qualifying terms like 'incidentally...'
Please someone tell me they've noticed this too.

I'm likely to make a more effortful pass at this topic in the future, but for now I just wanna throw down today's thoughts on why Human Domestication Guide hits so hard for many.
It comes from a really simple question: Did you consent to living under capitalism, imperialism, and borderline fascism?
No?
Rhetoric about this setting forces one to ask: Why then is there such a kerfluffle about consent when leaving it?
Yes, the works tend to spiral into kink, but that little core of it right there is incredible. It takes critical knowledge of consent dynamics in kink to make a story setting ask that question in that way.
Why is consent only brought up around changing the status quo, and not about how it was enforced in the first place?
Many stories are very specifically about breaking that indoctrination, even if sometimes it's to happily embrace a new indoctrination to replace it.
And therein lies the deepest fucking cut: You didn't consent to your natal puberty either.
So why is there so much endless obstructive talk of consent when fixing it?
Why is the discussion of consent always about HRT and surgeries and never about being able to consent to a natal puberty in the first place?
That is the crux of HDG: Is consent the real issue when fixing something one did not consent to in the first place?

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as enby, is in fact, femby, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, girl plus enby. Transfem is not a gender unto itself, but rather another free label of a fully functioning gender made useful by applying a vector to a current position in a gender field that is sometimes undefined by conventional binary labels.
Many queer folk run a modified version of a gender every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, my version of enby, which I widely use today, is often just called girl, and many observers are not aware that it is basically just nonbinary being developed further by being transfem.
There really is a nonbinary, and people are identifying as it, but it can also be just part of a system of identities that they may use. Nonbinary is a position in an n-dimensional gender space; away from the standard linear binary. A position in a gender space is an essential part of a gender identy, but can be incomplete by itself; sometimes it needs a vector, a direction of intent. Enby can be used in combination with a trans identity: in my case a gender then comprised of a nonbinary identity with a feminine presentation, or femby. Any identity is allowed multiple labels, even if seemingly incompatible like girl plus enby!
