Hey, I didn't use it very often but I'm not going to use "thiccdad" as a handle any more.

I was oblivious to the fact that "thicc" is the black twitter version of "thick", itself an AAVE term broadly describing fat bodies, until it came across it as an example in an article I was reading on that subject.

(https://www.theindy.org/article/2636, https://bythewaycreative.com/appropriationdictionary/)

Picking that name was never appropriate, and that's my fuck up.

Got my two jabs for flu and covid earlier today. Really hoping I don't get any major side effects just like last year (late 2023 but whatever). So far, so good.🤞

With the rapidly approaching shutdown of botsin.space in a few days, I'm taking the decision of ending @fruitmachine after 6 years of (not always regular) spins.

It started with a silly idea I posted on the Mutant Standard Discord server that then grew into some code haphazardly bridged to the fediverse.

I'm not sure how many posts were made, but I know it randomly generated a "pay line" of pentacles back in 2021, which was pretty cool. At some point in 2022, after it crossed 10K posts, I enabled auto-deletion to reduce its footprint on the server, so I lost track of the total number of posts.

A big thank you to @muffinista for hosting this bot (and so many others); and to @dzuk for the continued work on Mutant Standard, which was at the core of the bot's output; and to everyone who followed and interacted with the bot at any point.

If you liked the emojos featured in this bot, you should definitely be following Mutant Standard: @mutantstd - https://mutant.tech

Caius does outstanding design work (including commission emojis!), support/hire them: https://nocturne.works/

The bot's code will still be at https://github.com/shello/fruitmachinebot -- I don't expect it to be of use to anyone, but it doesn't hurt to keep it online.

I shall make a note of making more notes in the future. I'm sure that'll work.

Weeks ago I designed and 3D printed a part that turned out a bit too tight. It happens. Today I tweaked its parameters and got it printed again, only to find out that past me had already tweaked those values and didn't make a note of it. What an ass. :blobPikaUnamused:

Third time's the charm, or something like that.

I get that emoji reactions are a quick and succinct way of acknowledging a message. I constantly use this in instant messengers myself. Big fan, etc etc.

But within the email space this is was built without any compatibility between clients/providers (looking at you, Outlook and Gmail). What it means is that instead of a discreet notification somewhere in my email client, I'll get a full fledged "👍️ Fulano reacted to your message" email message.

Does it take me more effort to read than a "OK got it" message? Not really, no, but it feels just as mechanized as an out-of-office reply, and those are really annoying.

IMO support for this sort of thing should be flagged withinin the email message's headers by the MTA (or even the email client), so that the recipient wanting to react is prevented from doing it, or at least informed that the user on the other end will receive a rather impersonal email.

Hi! :blobCatWave:

I'm shello, a queer bear guy who's quietly been around the fediverse since 2017, previously as @shello@octodon.social. And I'm terrible at introductions!

I am in my mid 30s and I'm from Portugal.

Since I was a kid I was fascinated by computers and tech, which I studied and made my profession as a software developer.

Other stuff I'm into includes: crafting/DIY (paper, 3D printing, electronics), visual arts, logic puzzles, and cute fuzzy animals!

I can speak both Portuguese and English, and I understand Spanish fairly okay, as well as bits of French.

My favourite critters are: bears, otters, ferrets, owls, canids, and hedgehogs.

Last, but certainly not least, I firmly affirm that black and indigenous lives matter, and that trans and non-binary rights are human rights. Capitalism, colonialism, and all its offshoots are forms of power and abuse we need to eradicate as society.

:flagPrideProgress: 🐻 :blobHug:

[P.S: If you're considering sending a follow, please take a look at my bio first; I try to keep this account locked and limited to people I have know and have positively interacted with. Thanks!]
