We should rethink our zoos, because when done properly they are too valuable to close. However, animal welfare must be boosted, education should enhance visitors' engagement to ensure the relevant information will stick and help visitors to make dedicated pro-nature decisions.

Andean bears show behavioural flexibility when it comes to foraging areas. It may help them to regain lost territory quickly with help from targeted conservation measures. Currently high-altitude grasslands bordering cloud forest are key habitats for Andean bears and thus conservation managers.
