I've always hated these commercials.

I'm divided on the Tik Tok ban. On the one hand it's been a great communication platform. On the other hand the reason US govt wants to ban it is because most apps' data can be used to collect data on users. The US believes China does this, collecting data on app users via ad networks, including those of Americans, because the US does it too. And so do other States, to watch their populations,, and those of other nations. US govt just doesn't want to tell the public this fact. #privacy #tiktok

Journalists, bloggers, and anyone critical of the incoming #Trump administration better begin to use privacy tools like #Signal and #Tor to protect their sources and their personal information over the next four years during the rein of the #orangemenace. #journalism #trumpisafacist #eff #surveillance

Here is a 2021 document found online that lists the "lawful access" that law enforcement has with various secure messaging apps. There is clearly one winner here: #Signal #privacy #fbi #lawfulaccesstoinformationact #imessage #line #telegram #threema #viber #wechat #whatapp #wickr

I believe the best way to protect yourself is to use privacy respecting tech (like #Grapheneos and #Linux), turn off your phones' sensors, avoid cars with tracking tech, use network wide ad blockers on home networks, give out as little information about yourself as possible. These are a few things you can do to protect yourself. https://www.byrontau.com/means-of-control #Byrontau #Meansofcontrol #privacy

According to Byron Tau, author of the new book 'Means of Control,' simply purchasing your services and products will greatly aid in limiting companies' data collection about you. This is one piece of advice among a number of other advice given but I strong disagree with this. No longer does paying protect you. Look at your ISP and your cellular carrier. The grocery store. You pay hundreds of dollars and they still want all your data to buy and sell. #Byrontau #Meansofcontrol #privacy

To any who can answer this question. I've thought about running a VPN on my smartphone. Do text messages also get routed through the VPN, thus hiding their contents from your ISP, or does the VPN not work on all traffic? Only internet related? #cybersecurity #privacy #vpn

What's your threat model? I seek to protect my personal info from both governments and corporations as much as is practical. My main concern are my conversations with loved ones, and my day to day activities and, what content I read and watch online. I put a lot of fake info into platforms' profiles that will hopefully blur my identity, even if only a little. For ex. I still use Netflix, but limit the info I give them.
