Hmm, I think the emojis in my post on Yay Emacs 8: which-key-replacement-alist broke planet.emacslife.com's processing of my feed because it uses the Planet Venus aggregator, which requires Python 2.7, which results in unichr() arg not in range(0x10000) (narrow Python build). Probably related: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7105874/valueerror-unichr-arg-not-in-range0x10000-narrow-python-build
I've been meaning to switch to a different RSS aggregator, so I think I'll do Emacs News and then bump that up my priority list.

Tickled pink that I've lately been able to write blog posts that dig into more coding (Treemap visualization of an Org Mode file and Automatically correcting phrasing and misrecognized words in speech-to-text captions by using a script) as well as send patches to various projects. =) The kiddo is in virtual school and still wants plenty of hugs throughout the day. I get stressed when I try to use that time for consulting, so I'll use it for coding, writing, and other personal projects instead. I'm starting to get the hang of picking ideas that are easy to pick up and put down when I get interrupted.

I added a play-by-play to https://sachachua.com/blog/2025/01/yay-emacs-8-which-key-replacement-alist/ inspired by the ones on Karthik's videos (ex: https://karthinks.com/software/fringe-matters-finding-the-right-difference/).

I sent in a pull request for #Galene to not allow unmuting until camera/microphone is enabled (https://github.com/jech/galene/pull/247). Definitely on the side of user error there, but we might as well have some kind of guardrails... =)

I started looking into the Galène videoconference server for #OrgMeetup, #EmacsConf, and other events. It was pretty easy to get working and I can connect to it from Google Chrome, but I couldn't connect to it from Firefox in a snap (can’t establish a connection to the server at wss://...:8443/ws). I followed the instructions at https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/04/how-to-install-firefox-deb-apt-ubuntu-22-04 , and the non-Snap version of Firefox works. I remember running into websocket issues in Firefox when I was panicking about getting BigBlueButton working for EmacsConf. It still feels a little uncool to say, well, people might just have to change browsers.

I added a bunch of #emacs videos from Vimeo to https://emacs.tv , and I added Emacs watching instructions from the about page.

All right, emacs.tv and emacstv.el make it easy to watch random #Emacs videos, and the emacstv-background-mode keeps them playing in the background. :) Other ideas: random shuffle a subset of the videos (ex: ones tagged org), make it easy to jump to or create a note for the video currently playing, share the current video via mastodon.el. Also, random package from ELPA/NonGNU ELPA/MELPA, random interactive Emacs function...

All right, I can use emacstv-play-random from within #Emacs to get mpv.el to play a random Emacs video from https://github.com/emacstv/emacstv.github.io . Mwahahaha!

I think it could be really cool to have an #emacs video index like https://www.rubyvideo.dev/topics . Comments in the discussion at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42423253 say it's manually indexed, and the source is at https://github.com/adrienpoly/rubyvideo . 4000 videos, 2500+ speakers. Nice!

Yay, I've copied the rest of the comments from IRC and YouTube to the #EmacsConf talk pages, so speakers will be able to review them in one go. I've also copied some sections out of the transcripts for quick answers. I might send the speakers the thanks email with the discussion and main talk video links, but without links to the Q&A videos yet.
BigBlueButton audio mixing was as usual a bit of a challenge, with some participants quiet and some participants louder. BBB saves only mixed audio. It would be nice to see if I can get separate audio recordings next year by configuring https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/12302 , but that sounds a little complicated. Instead of taking over the task of messing with the audio in the current recordings (which I tend to flub because I don't have the patience for it :) ), I can leave space for other people to do things. Instead, I can focus on the other tasks I've been procrastinating. :)

Actually, there's probably a choice there, isn't there? I could upload the #EmacsConf Q&A videos to YouTube and Toobnix without waiting for audio normalization, I can take the time to learn how to do it and go do it, or I can wait for zaeph and others to do it before I upload to those services. The Q&A videos are already available from the emacsconf.org/2024/talks page, so people can get to them even without the processing, and there are a few more things I can do before I get to that item on my TODO list. I'd do a poll but I think my GoToSocial instance doesn't support it yet, so you can comment with thoughts instead.

[#]emacsconf update: I added all the Q&A videos and pads to the emacsconf.org wiki. I even managed to add chapter indices so that people can jump to a particular question in the video and so that the rough transcripts are slightly more readable. My next steps: extract interesting lines from the IRC log, use my new command to copy sections from the transcript as answers on the wiki page, email speakers and emacsconf-discuss, and wait for zaeph or other volunteers to normalize audio before uploading the videos to YouTube/Toobnix.

I'm on https://anonradio.net/ with @screwtape for the next half hour or so chatting about #Emacs and Emacs Lisp and #EmacsConf and stuff, I'll try to check toots for questions or you can join LambdaMOO following the quick Q&A tutorial under https://emacsconf.org/2024/talks/mcclim/ (see section on lambda.moo.mud.org)
