Tidied up the home network/home lab corner yesterday! A little worried about it getting too warm inside the box, but we'll see how it goes. I might buy a little Aqara temp sensor. Wish I had more space to build out a small rack, but this does the trick in our tiny apartment... for now lol

Made some biggish updates to my art management software, PROlific! Complete with a new UI and more features. I think next steps will be setting up an ORM for the database and then finally adding the guest access feature so that I can have guests access with their own logins and see only pre-selected works

Initial UniFi setup: Complete! I'm now running the networks through the Cloud Gateway Max (with a 256GB M.2 SSD) and a U6+ AP over POE. Two separate networks for now, one for retro/tinkering and the other for our serious computing lol
Also because of who I am as a person, I printed (and laminated!) some wifi cards (complete with NFC!)

Sometimes you just need to clack around on a 30-something year old keyboard for the day, but still use your modern computer...

Also... used part of a 1/2 gal milk jug to protect the metal contacts, Gorilla Tape'd the PCB to the plastic milk jug part, and zip tied the contraption to the HDD mount. Chef's kiss π€

Out with the spinning disk and in with the SD-to-IDE! Windows 2000 Server is being installed as I type this.
I tried to go the IDE HDD route, but when I replaced the 4.3GB HDD with a 160GB, it was too big to be recognized. So I found a 40GB, but it was so loud and shrill I couldn't do it. And CF-to-IDE was more expensive than SD-to-IDE for 32GB.
Did I need more than 4.3GB? Maybe, maybe not. But I will say, so far the SD-to-IDE makes this machine so much quieter and so far appears pretty damn snappy!

Made a custom branded wallpaper for the Windows 2000 Server machine, loaded up the network logo to an OEMLOGO.bmp, and got Firefox to do some light surfing. OH! And got it to successfully print to my modern Epson inkjet. π

Today's retro tech adventure: Trying once again to install OS/2 Warp 3 onto the IBM ThinkPad 390E. It's already proving to be... annoying.
I got a 3Com ethernet PCMCIA card that should work with OS/2 today at Free Geek, as well as a 4GB IDE HDD. But I keep getting errors toward the end of the install and I'm not quite sure why...
Photos taken with my 4th gen iPod touch and featuring my cat, Opal, as quality control.

Made a quick-n-dirty launcher for all the services on our network, "The Sapphire Citadel"! I always overcomplicate these kinds of things and finally decided that the services each have passwords if needed, so why do I need complex auth and frameworks and shit in a LAUNCHER!?
Also, our network is "The Sapphire Citadel" because my husband and I were both born in September and September's birth stone is... you guessed it... the sapphire lol. The logo I made is inspired by my wedding ring!

Traded in my iPhone 15 Pro Max (dark blue) for a new iPhone 16 Pro (white) yesterday! I'm so thankful I went back to the Pro-size. Pro Max was way too big for me, my hands, and my tiny women pants pockets π T-Mobile and iOS "Stolen Device Protection" did place some obstacles in my way, but finally got out with the new phone!
