Today, I offered unsolicited opinions and analysis about politics/current events, and as far as I know, I did not make any enemies.

Someone let me know he enjoyed the video I posted. (Thank you, @firephoto)

I have only one more file to go and I’ll be finished with a backlog of work from 2024. (And so far, I am not behind at all for 2025.)

The sun is out, but temperatures are dropping.

Potted plants are again sheltered in the garage.

I’m layered up and (hopefully) ready for the cold nights that lie ahead.

500 characters or less suits me just fine by providing an unspoken demand to take "I" out of the life-narrative.

It's been my observation "I" tend to dramatize and complicate the simplest of processes.

For example, the first thing I thought of when I awakened this morning was how old I've become in the last 8 years. How could that have happened without my noticing? Then I started to panic because my birthday will pass by in fewer days than have passed since the election.

Fuck me.

Worked in the garden yesterday with DH. (It was a lovely day to be outside, no winter wear required.) We easily fell into a productive rhythm and got a lot accomplished.

Read something wholesome and authentic today. Paid some bills. Ate a sandwich, drank some tea.

Then enjoyed a quiet, solitary day doing familiar household chores.

Went shopping. Encountered zero toxic people. No long guns. No hairy eyeballs. The checker was unperturbed and patient with me as I fumbled with the money.

My car had a brain snap and wouldn’t open up, and I did not forget about the secret greasy key hidden in the fob. (But I cannot lie: I still have the distinct sense my car is not my own.)

Indulged in a root beer float to celebrate another successful shopping day.

Slept affably overnight.

Indulged in an uneventful walk around the neighborhood. (Christmas is over, people. No offense.)

Sunny skies, breezy, temperatures well above freezing.

In 2010, while attending a wake for an old friend, I accidentally made a bit of a scene when it was suggested I "needed" to join Facebook to stay in touch with "everybody".

I don't remember all I said, but I do remember a righteous sense of rage rising along with my voice as I said it. It reached a crescendo when I shouted, "I am not a commodity! I am an asset!!"

As I recall, "everybody" turned to look at me and laugh. I wasn't taken seriously . . .

But guess who's laughing now?

Getting started can be so hard, but a job done well is such a good thing.

And I got stuff done today!

Neighborhood kids walked past the house in their bright, colorful winter wear on their way home from school. Their already-happy demeanor appeared energized further by cold air and sunny skies.

01

The winter jasmine is blooming.

A strong north wind has animated the fallen leaves, driving them across lawns in big clusters as isolated smaller sets swirl and dance like butterflies just above the ground.

Even in the dead of winter, the intimacy of sunlight through the south windows brightens and warms the front rooms.

Brought tender perennials and succulents in pots from the garden to the garage ahead of the forecasted cold snap (which will hit hard sometime Sunday morning). Inventoried my long-sleeved, fleece cozy clothes. Located and fueled generator.

Showered (so I don’t have to worry about falling in the bathtub in an "unexpected" blackout).

Presently, it’s 67℉ (19.5℃) with very light, easterly winds, so it all went comfortably well.

Designed a compost system that produces compost year round. For most of my adult life, it was only a dream, a persistent twinkling in back of my mind. Then, about ten years ago, we built it. It worked.

Presently, the pile of finished compost is the biggest pile of compost we’ve ever cooked. It’s huge, enough to cover all the cultivated beds.

The wonderment of compost never ceases to amaze me.

Realized I’m not keeping time in terms of days, weeks and years anymore. Even though I never had kids, I keep time in terms of generations, a length of time roughly equivalent to twenty years.

I am, therefore, about halfway through my fourth generation on Earth.

Realized I’m never going to be swimming in the mainstream of life with most folks, and it doesn't matter.

I don't care to fit it. I care to be happy.

I gave it all I had but discovered I could never achieve the depth of cynicism necessary to make it as a political consultant.

I became a ballerina/whale trainer instead.

It's possible we aren't at a fork in the road, and there isn't a right or left path out of what appears to be a willful march to extinction.

It's possible it's just a walking-talking pile of rubble made out of an obsolete social order that is blocking the way.

Rigid, intractable, old world positions in political ideology--right and left--are locked in mortal combat, blocking the way forward.

Edge lords of convention are sucking all the oxygen out of the Earth-room.
